Reactivity of the metals is directly related to electropositive chacacter. The electro positive character ,in turn, can be determined by the tendency of the metal to lose electron/s.Higher the tendency of a metal to lose electron/s, the stronger is tts reducing nature or more is its REDOX REACTIVITY.

Quantitatively, REDOX REACTIVITY is determined the Standard Half Oxidation Potential(SOP) or Standard Half Reduction Potential(SRP) values[ in Volts(V)].The SOP and SRP are numerically equal but of opposite sign.So higher the value of SOP (or lesser the value of SRP), the stronger is the redox nature of the metal.

The relative order or Redox Reactivity of the given list of metals is as follow:

Mn,Zn, Cr, Fe , Co, Ni, Cu

Because:

SOP values of the metals are:

1,18 ,0.76, 0.74,0.44,0.28,0.26 , -0.34 V.

Or

Their SRP are:

-1,18 , -0.76, - 0.74, -0.44, -0.28, -0.26 , +0.34 V.

Dear Manohar sir, Thanks it helps me a lot. But i want to ask one more thing is it that more redox reactive metal generate more reactive oxygen species (ROS). I am working on ROS and these metals therefore want to clear this query.

. The sequential reduction of oxygen through the addition of electrons leads to the formation of a number of ROS including: superoxide; hydrogen peroxide; hydroxyl radical; hydroxyl ion.

The half oxidation potential of converting an O2 to ROS is 0.207 V.

Balance electrons by multiplying by an integer(don’t multiply the half cell values)

The answer obtained by substracting first equation from the second should be positive. This is possible only in case of metals having SRP values less than 0.207V.

(All excepting Cu).

The difference will be maximum on Mn and least Ni,

So relative order togenerate ROS is:

Mn,Zn, Cr, Fe , Co, Ni

Pls. note that all values are reported in literature. So much so any standard +2 book contains these values.So no one dare any give wrong values.

Cu has higher value than 0.207, it means it does not generate ROS. However studies from life sciences or interdisciplinary nature reported that Cu generate ROS within living systems.

My child; you caught this old man right. In case of copper- it is Cu(s) changing to Cu(+) and not Cu(s) changing to Cu(2). The SRP of Cu(S) to Cu(+) is 0.19V -which is less than 0.207V. Hope it works.
