EU law has started as being an odd type of international law, at least in the mind of some scientists, but now-a-days it is no area of national law in the Member States that it is not affected by EU law. Paul Craig asserts that there is no more place for a national law lawyer, but everyone must be acquainted with the EU law in order to practice law in Europe.

At first, European law (European court and commission) did no want to be treated as international law: the status of international law in the domestic legal systems of the member-countries was not attractive; European law wanted to be 'something special and entirely new' so that direct effect and primacy was possible irrespective of how the member-countries treated the reception of 'other' international law.

EU Law is considered supranational Law - the special Law of the European Communities - knowadays of the European Union.
EU Law is looked afer by a special court - the European Court in Strassbourg, France.
The european Law of human right is a different matter...
It depends on the topic if you need a lawyer with eu-law specialization. When eu law is transformed in national law like it is with all eu directives, there is hardly any necessity.
