Though its too early to answer... however, till now, its making the best of available resources and learning to fight the roadblocks with patience, perseverance and wits.
Big lesson #1: IT'S GOOD TO BE A LIFELONG LEARNER! IN THIS CENTURY, A VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) AGE, IT'S LIFELONG LEARNERS WHO INHERIT THE EARTH.
If someone were to learn anything from my story it would be how to get back on your feet., dust yourself off, eat a little crow, and look at ones self, eye to eye, and begin again. This history has allowed me to relate to and be in the presence of many, many beautiful yet very troubled adolescents and walk with them into adulthood and beyond. I hope whomever learns from my story it is never/never give advise to anybody always give your experience, your time, strength, hope, and love because that is really all we have to give that is truly ours when all is said and done is a little piece of me to you.
I agree with you that Douglas how to communicate his thoughts very well. But your experience or lesson you are able to take or others are from you life is unique. Even big Douglas wants to learn from you.
I may say it is hard work, commitment to science and higher education as well as to my family and friends! Dear @Vilemar, I think that You have mentioned something about me a while ago!
Of course you are right! I would love to hear and gain access into Carmen's life story so we all could learn. Yet, even though I believe my thirst may be greater for Carmen's life story after those beautifully kind and most gracious post. Yet I also respect Carmen's words and the lesson they conveyed.
I am very honored, humbled. and tonight a blessed man.
I say things about you here and among my friends and family all the time. I believe that the biggest lesson I learned from you is that you grow in life helping others to grow. Every time I am discussing about characteristics a good teacher should have I say that one needs to do like you that let people around you shine. You always come to the battle adequately armed, that is, you bring links, quotation, etc And I have never seen anyone here hurt with your statements and the list goes on and on. That is, we have to ljubomir at all times, to grow as a spring to elevate others and let the others elevate us instead if they feel like it.
I value every action I am able to do and the living beings in all its forms. To kill any forms of life I have to find a big reason for it. Studying biology I learn what it takes for the bugs, salamenders, birds, ants to grow and how important they are for their ecosystem. Concerning humans, I try to live with all kinds of personalities. I usually say that there is noone so good who is unable to do bad things, and there is noone so bad who can not do good things. So, we have to learn how to roll with the punches.
Dear Vilemar, you are very right about Prof Ljubomir. He was a Fulbright scholar, and he's a great leader, concerned about our growth. It's the same with Profs Kamal, Mahfuz and some other RG leaders. They are our power rangers, remember the cartoon? I attach a pic to express what we wish to say :)
@Eraldo. We have to learn so much from Helen Keller. If the world knew it too, we would be teaching about her in our schools. And many people told her oarents that it would be better if she were killed. She was not considered as human being by some people. This is one of the reasons I am pro life. I have never seen anyone with more adverse conditions and a few who were so apt for life like Helen Keller.
I agree with you that we have to look for to be self suffient, but the impression I have taken from my life, I am not saying that this is a universal rule, is that the more I grow the more depended I became on others. The more I grew, the lesser I was able to determine what the things would be like. And my biggest dream today is to become a guest in my own house. I want to say thanks to people, go the beach and leave the house with the owner. If I could, I would the same at work. Then I would research absolutely what I want, when I wanted it. Lower level people go home at the end of the day and they have no worries. We have to find solutions 24h a day, money to support our work. The funds are needed before the project is finished. I do things today that I can be paid for in two or more years from now.
Again, this is my personal point of view, it is good to depend on others. I usually say that we have to work as if we were a soccer team, a basket ball team. One has to pass the ball for you in order to score the goals. If the team members play alone, this is not much of team.
I depend on my wife totally. This is like poeple say, she is the other half, literally.
Dear @Vilemar and dear @Miranda, I fully agree with your views on dear @Ljubomir. Because his all the answers (and questions), without a single exception, are quite detailed and informative and I think his overall contribution to ResearchGate is just matchless.
Another lesson apart from the previous ones mentioned is that in life we have two options in facing stressful situations: either to keep calm or to become angry. Anger induces more stress and so it is better to keep calm.
Difficult question dear Vilemar ! one should have lived many experiences for a long life, and at its twilight, one could make a synthesis of what was successful and what wasn't, and may be one could get a lesson for others. As we haven't attain this age yet, we are still learners. However the life is full of lessons for the self first; lessons of the life depend on many factors from the destiny, the will, the personality, the available tools, the intelligence, the education, the society, etc...
May be the best advice is to focus to be positive, constructive, thinker, learner and fair, with a high dose of self esteem and self confidence, and trust in God.
"It is not a question of two hundred or three hundred years, for even after a million years life will still be exactly the same as it was before. Life does not change, it remains constant, following its own particular laws, laws which are outside your scope or, at the very least, laws which you will never know. Migratory birds, cranes for example, keep on flying and flying, and no matter what thoughts wander into their heads, whether they are sublime or petty it is no matter, they will still keep on flying and not know why they are flying or where they are flying to. They fly and will keep on flying whatever philosophers might be born amongst them; and let them philosophise, as much as they wish, as long as they keep on flying…"
Exactly, Prof Eraldo, “Wisdom ceases to be wisdom when it becomes too proud to weep, too grave to laugh, and too selfish to seek other than itself.” And I like this pic. (My time on RG QA seems to shrink as my commitments increase, please forgive me.)
I like to teach from Nikola Tesla, learn and apply! He is wonderful! His life lessons are very inspirative! When someone tells you it can’t be done, do it anyway: Take risks. They always make you stronger; Learn from failure. Success will follow; Don’t stop. Use past achievement to propel future progress...!
“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”
The ones who learn how to face his end will surely also know the key to a happy and sucessful life. That is probably the biggest lesson one can give to the world.
The pursuit of wisdom and happiness is complicated by the fact that we don't quite know how to think of them in useful ways. For further cogitations, see:

Different persons bring very different life experiences. Sometimes, we do serve as a role models to our children and our students. People recognize the real values...
Do not expect that all will go smooth and easy. Change is the name of the game. Sometimes you have to ask what did not go wrong. Play the loosing card, and somewhere there is a suitable exit.
You might be living a good life. When you have an easy life, you can not tell the time. A class which is not well planned may take forever, a good class you may be surprised at how fast it ends.
It depends on the teacher first and second on the student. It is difficult to forget a good teacher for the whole life, even sometimes he leaves a print in your character and making decision.
