Please let me know if you can't access it (institutional login required, etc.). All 29 listed journals are also indexed by SCOPUS in case your institution pays extra attention to the "reputation/ranking" of the journals. *please note however that not ALL Scopus-indexed journals will find their way to the ranking system by JCR. It really depends on the individual publisher(s). But that is by no means that non-JCR journals are not excellent journals.

You can publish new interesting species records in Sydowia journal as well. The journal is edited by Irmgard Krisai-Greilhuber. They have a series of large collective papers, called "Fungal Systematics & Evolution (FUSE)"

Thanks for the information provided by esteemed colleagues. Two other worth publishing journals for publishing 1-2 novelties are Nordic Journal of Botany and Turkish Journal of Botany. But, former is faster than the latter.

Thanks, Michael! Indeed it's sounds really good! Mycotaxon is a good journal for taxonomy.

Francisco, Mycotaxon is a great journal. Lorelei Norvell who is editor in chief is a super fine person. But you better be prepared to wait for one year or more to publish there. They often have a large backlog of papers waiting for publication.

If you want something similar but much faster and with better IF, then try Phytotaxa which is free or Mycokeys where you need to pay to publish.

options to publication of taxonomic papers and mycobiotas. Of course, free of charges are a real advantage over the time for publication, I guess...

Yes Francisco! You are welcome to publish there if you do not mind waiting for a year or year and a half. I recommend it for aforementioned reasons!

I've been checking other journals. For example, Mycosphere has a greater impact factor (2017-2018: 2.015) than Mycotaxon (2017-2018: 0.815) (I don’t know how it’s for this year). In fact, Mycosphere has an average faster publishing process (a good advantage). Once it is an open access journal with no publication fees, articles are more widely circulated and are more easily accessed (another one advantage).

Unfortunately, in Brazil we have another journal evaluation system (Qualis Capes) that assigns different evaluations (grades) to the same journal. For example, for an Environmental Sciences’ researcher in Brazil (Environmental Science’s Qualis Capes area), like me, the preferable is to publish in a Journal with evaluation/grade "A1" in the area of Environmental Sciences. However, journals on Mycology don’t always have good evaluation in the area of environmental sciences according to this criterion. So, unfortunately, if we look for a specific journal for Mycology, with a poor evaluation by Capes, we lose a lot, so we have to look for Journals that are not always specific. And we hope that everything goes right.

The specific journals with better grades (e.g. Mycology, Fungal Ecology, and others Elsevier's Journals) have an unnecessary stardom, which slows the spread of knowledge and generates expenses for the authors (that do not match the reality of research in countries such as Brazil).

Sometimes it isn't easy to make science.

It doesn't have IF, but is abstracted and included in Scopus I looked into the paper that you mentioned and have to correct some things that has changed since 2011. CM is now open access, no fees are required and online versions are published prior to their inclusion in the printed issue. Maybe would you like to publish in polish Acta Mycologica? We have not got IF (only Scopus) but articles in Acta Mycologica are high level of all aspects of mycology.

You will have to read the payment requirements of the journals you are interested in. Regarding payments, in some journals, there are different fees depending on the "development" level of your country, being free or lower the publication fees for low and middle income countries (I think the lists are from the World Bank and/or International Monetary Fund). Nevertheless, in some "big" journals it is free to publish.

Good and difficult question at the same time. My experience with some journals has not always been the best, and I think they are not always impartial, unfortunately. While sometimes peer reviewers have asked us with what pressure the water comes out through the tap to perform the wet sieving and decanting method to obtain mycorrhizal fungal spores from the soil, other recognized journals publish sand grains and insect heads as spores of these fungi, as I have seen them. If we use methodologies published in our national journals, it is difficult for them to be accepted, or they simply accuse us of "editorial inbreeding" among co-authors. Then it is to have the money to pay for the paper, find impartial arbitrators and at the same time a bit of luck. For that and other reasons we are very happy and satisfied with publishing in our Acta Botánica Cubana, because we believe that the most important thing is that the international scientific community knows our scientific results

Dear Eduardo Furrazola Gómez ,thanks for your reply. I think that this final step, "publish" it's the hardest of all. There are lots of similar troubles and conflicts of interests here in Brazil and publish in a good Journal is not cheap! I hope for new horizons to scientific communication.
