Drugs can't work properly as it will have some complications. It will be best if both the synthetic drugs can acts against the viruse and also boost host immunity in this case.
Drugs are having supportive role as of now with preventive measures at the best way to deal with COVID-19. No game changing medicine is available as of now. Asymptomatic and Mild patients recover well without any need of specific antiviral drugs . Isolation and monitoring are enough. Main challenge is being posed by moderate to severe COVID-19 infection which increase the morbidity and mortality. Interplay of cytokines in Severe COVID-19 and related complications like ARDS are difficult to tackle. With availability of a vaccine in future and few specific drugs, COVID-19 van be addressed in a better way.
It depends on how fast the scientists can find out the right candidate for the treatment of Covid-19 whether through vaccines or synthetic drugs.

For the vaccines (immunologically), require a lot of time i.e. from isolation of the virus, molecular characterization until obtaining the general vaccines and needs clinical trials to figure out whether it’s safe to human and for the effective dose.
For the synthetic drugs, scientists will use MERS-CoV or SARS-CoV medicines for treatment of SARS-CoV 2 (Covid-19). In this case also require clinical trials to find out the effective dose or even need to change the molecular structure of medicine and produce novel synthetic drugs.
I wish in future, there will be a novel way in handling the pandemic i.e. using microbes to fight microbes. This article show how viruses fight viruses. Maybe we can use the concept from this article in finding natural enemies for corona virus.

Although Its mutation rate is high So Its But Challenging to make a Vaccine But I think Trivalent or Pentavalent Vaccine can come in future.
I prefer the immunological method by targeting the virus .. I exclude the pharmacological method because the pathophysiology of the virus is intertwined and complex and the receptors that it uses to enter cells such as ACE2 and TMPRS2 cannot be blocked because they have very critical functions.
