I am trying to operate a 14 liter bioreactor for bacterial growth, however, the lab does not have house air and I do not want to use O2 tanks. Does anyone here use an air compressor for their bioreactor? What volume and power air compressor is appropriate for maintaining sufficient sparge air in a pilot scale bioreactor?
If it helps, I am using a BioFlo 415 SIP fermenter.

I suggest that you call Eppendorf (the BioFlo manufacturer) and see if they have any recommendations and to confirm the specifications of the air supply.
I would also call a couple of local air compressor suppliers once you have the specifications. Ask about how they will service the air compressor because it is much better if they send someone onsite compared to crating it and sending it somewhere.
I recommend the oil-free air compressors, and you will need a dryer and a filter between the air compressor and the bioreactor.
Also keep in mind the electrical requirements
Do you have 3-phase power?
Do you have enough current?
And the loudness.
Will you have to "sit" near it or can you put it in a utility room?
