Hello. You can use benzyl chloride. this it the protocole that we use to extract quickly genomic DNA (without using heat shock).

It works very well and has a very good yield.

• you can use Trizol or Tri reagent instead of phenol followed by chloroform IAA extraction
• Alternatively most companies like Qiagen Ambion (Gibco life Sciences) thermofisher and Sigma make purification Columns
• The advantage of column based procedures is that you avoid using toxic chemicals like phenol or Trizol
• The disadvantage is that they cope less well with impurities in the starting materials and tend to saturate
• Thus columns are perfect for small amounts of clean tissue culture cells whereas extraction of RNA from larger quantities of tissue is best performed with phenol or Trizol

Trizol is commont one, but if you only want to alternative for phenol, so benzyl chloride is also ok.
