Good question. From an ICT appropriation perspective it would be , among other things, good to explore possible impact of "Internet of things" on the environment - both positive and negative. Another one is related to (much) more empirical studies on the use of mobile technologies for sustainable development of pure (urban, peri-urban, rural and deep rural) communities -including "green" issues such as e-waste and use of eco-friendly devices.
I am currently at the beginning of the project dedicated to the Open Data related ICT capacitating citizens in developing countries for sustainable development. This is also linked to the UN Sustainability Goals,i.e. UN " Data Revolution for Sustainable Development"
Will be happy to further discuss these and other ideas.
The 15 Global Challenges continue to be the best introduction by far to the key issues of the early 21st century. Research areas for sustainable development are depicted.
