I want to simulate the effect of stresses on a graphene monolayer and observe the deformations appearing in the material. The problem is the understanding of the element size and how to define a single atomic layer thick width in the FEA packages like ANSYS and/or COMSOL.
Elasticity (stiffness modulus, yong modulus) and poisson ratio are sufficient for a simple linear analysis. However one could take into account the non-linearity of the materials and include the additional parameter such as creep or viscoelastic etc....
This is represented in two phases 1- Linear phase ( elasticity modulus and poisson ratio) 2- Nonlinear stage ( depends on the type of problem )

You need to define under compression using Hook's law based elastic theory with parameters like Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, unit weight and under tension need to define with additional data like tensile strength of the material. Also, if you are looking for the bending response then need to use bending stiffness of the material. I suggest you to read scientific manual of ANSYS for further understanding on it..ok all the best..
For linear analysis
1. Material property: Elastic modulus and poisson's ratio.
2. Element type: as you are using 2D, you can mesh surface with shell element putting some thickness.
3. Apply constrains and loads.
4. Solve.
