your question involves me a lot. That is, do we have to forget / eliminate previous knowledge to put ourselves in the hands of totally new ones without posing any problems? My answer is that, it is always better to also have a plan B that can allow us to find, however, a solution.

Practical example, GPS systems (mobile phones, tablets, watches, GPS systems, etc. are competing in this field). All these systems help us in the search for the optimal path and guide us step by step towards the goal and back but, in case of problems (breakdown, malfunction, flat batteries, etc.) I still have to be able to get by, for example. bringing with me a simple map of the paths of the place and being able to read it (you do not need a high IQ but you need to have some experience ...) and a small piece of paper does not save my life but allows me to do not stress me maybe on a vacation day.

So, to summarize, technology gallops ... but let's not be slaves to it ..., just have an IQ not high but from a few generations ago ... due to an experience that should be handed down to younger people !!!

I concur with Pierluigi Traverso 's comments. I'd like to tackle the problem from the perspective of a father and a professor. It goes without saying that the harmful effects of cellphones on human beings and on young people in particular are well-established now. Many research papers are published on this issue. As a father, I have noticed a tendency among my kids to refer to their phones to do the least demanding mathematical operations. By default, it has become a practice performed by the whole generation. I strongly believe that this one instance over which not two would disagree on its destructive effect on IQ.

These and other studies definitely indicate that cell phones do affect the sleeping pattern, inventiveness, and other capability of human beings, which directly affect the intelligence.

Yes, I agree with everything you wrote. The scientific fact of the IQ concerns more than fact of index itself. Even because I prefer multiple intelligences of Prof. Howard Gardner. I think it's important because we had already identified that cell phones harm children and young people, but there was no scientific proof of this.

In fact, we feel that, and I personally am very surprised when I hear from my co-workers that their children spend the whole night on the internet and sleep during the day. Of course, I always warn them of the dangers of this because sleeping at night is necessary to synergize it with growth hormone and melatonin...In addition to the side effects caused by this addiction, such as its effect on eyesight and obesity in children...Unfortunately, the parents do not pay attention to that... Today I only teach classes for master's students. And when I teach them to do bibliographic research, I show the importance of reading scientific paper with a text marker, then making a summary with essence of paper written by hand. This is because it is proven that human learning is more efficiently absorbed as knowledge when we perform task of remembering and writing by hand, without typing.

Filipe Wiltgen I think this topic has been very well discussed. I do agree with you in regards to multiple intelligences and that individuals learn through different methods. Cell phones, computers, tablets etc. are tools to help us and should not be completely relied on....

The question now is to investigate the effect of long term use of cell phones on intelligence. Does it has an effect on the brains cells and what kind of brain cells? and where in the brain? If we find any effect then the question is which type of specific radiation are responsible for this effect?

I don't know if it's some kind of radiation? I tend to believe more in the way the device is used and in itself, in time of use and in constancy at very young ages.

Cellphones are useful and can help children in many ways. However we don't exactly know how much it can damage their health and mental development. Excess of everything is harmful. Thus parents should take care of the length children are using cellphones and take mesures in order to limit it as much as possible.

Mobile Phone use has a significant negative impact on working memory performance of human participants. The effect is apparent even for a 5 minute use of the MP. Working memory deficits are greater not only for the 60 years old and above participants but also for individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment. These results are in agreement with previous studies on animals as well as humans on the effects of MP use on the brain. It is argued that low sensitivity of some of the cognitive tasks used until now and the lack of a validated tool in the form of a cognitive task may account for some of the variability in the literature so far.

Everything has to be done in moderation. Relying too much on the cellphone on memorizing simple things like meetings, dates, phone numbers and the possibility to google everything could possibly reduce the IQ but I would rather consider that as negligence rather than reduced IQ.
