I suggest you can use ImageJ for most of the tasks. (which is free)

However in most cases you will need to binarize your image for analysis (phases, elements, pores...), so you will likely have to do it for each element.

1) i dont know about that. We use imageJ to analyse density, measure phase proportions, grain/pore shape, amount and size etc...

2) yes: you binarize your image basically to get black/white (pores black, material white...), imageJ gives info about amount, size, shape etc. of black spots...

3) you can do the binarization directly in ImageJ manually or by writing a macro.

I just wonder about 2nd point. I have several phases (alumina, zirconia and Lanthanum hexaaluminate). I want to use different colours for each phase to match this data with the phase percentage composition by X'Pert Highscore sftware (rietvelid analysis) and in other words, to relate them with hardness, fracture toughness and strength variations.

In order to using JmatPro, according to the software, initial information like chemical composition of your sample, critical temperatures, and etc. are needed. After you fill these information, properties like yield, and tensile strength and hardness calculate. I think this software is free and working with it is easy.
