Books are the pond to swim and the face book is the stream charming in the cascade landscape.I prefer books to spend my quality time though in the facebook there are huge links for the updated information , news feeds, gala captions, new faces and the lovely old faces of my friends and family members.
I love books but I confess a certain obsession with chatting and exchanging material that makes me laugh with friends on FB. It is a welcome distraction when I have been immersed in research or otherwise preoccupied with a task. Since I work at home it is often the only form of communication I have apart from my pets. So, it serves a purpose for me. Sometimes when I have read a great amount of material, my brain needs some time to process it. So, I play Mahjong and that mindless activity lets my brain summarize the material I have read.
Same to me . I don't like face book much rather Research gate . I like book. You will surprise to to know the great Philosopher , poet , Play write & Composer Rabindranath Tagore's books are as like the book of religion . I like his books to read again and again.
I recommend science fiction writer Ray Bradbury's 1950s novel Fahrenheit 451 as to what becomes of a society where the love of texts has died. This novel is available on Amazon.
I am find of accessing content in RG than Facebook. In fact, its more productive reading books and to be on academically stimulating sites than to be on FB.
We always think that books are the main sources of knowledge sometimes based on research with good referencing whereas, information of FB is sometimes have to validity or references. But for amusement, FB is nonparallel especially by the young people.
Is it possible to compare incomparable things? In my opinion it's like putting a question "who's smarter: an artist or a scientist?" (eg, in maths or other exact sciences). I suppose, the first of them can get inspiration or even improve proffesional skills watching pictures, listening to music and so on (so, social networks could be really useful to him).
Books of course, because facts, reliable and in-depth knowledge may be obtained from it as compared to face book where anybody can post just anything ,correct or otherwise
I think you are alright. Comparison should be accurate and with a standard but this is a situation in the worldwide, we cant ignore. Readers of the both are the same persons.
I see I didn't ask strictly to your answer but I just cannot realize how one can read FB (list pages?). The world has changed. Yes. Moreover I suppose everybody uses social networks more or less frequently and normally, it's about lazytime (some kind of alternative to TV). When we mean work or scholarship I suppose it's about books.
I never, ever use FB for anything remotely scientific or educational. In fact, I rarely use FB at all. It offers no value to me. Books, on the other hand, are immensely valuable and - if physical - don't need charging or special apps. Just a comfortable seat and good light :)
Undoubtedly, social networks are captivating, we were not prepared to drink so much information or for people, known friends and relatives to demand so much information.
This has made the use of this social network has become addictive, however, to respond strictly to the good question that makes us, we can respond with a new question, maybe two:
What does the social network that is mentioned contribute?
What do the books provide?
In the first case, unfortunately, valuable things are not always shared there, nor do we have greater options to avoid that siege. Honestly, I found some good things, but they are the least.
It is known that the digital natives, prefer in lesser measure, the written word in texts, prefer even less the written word in printed texts, are inclined more and more to use digital information, moving image, sound and immediacy of the multimedia. Printed books may be in decline, and I do not doubt it.
However, good books can be chosen more freely, or at least with a similar freedom we can avoid books that are not so good.
That is the difference, even today I prefer books.
Books play a significant role in our life. They say that “When you open a book, you open a new world”. I believe that everyone would agree with this statement as books have become inevitable to mankind. For the majority of people, books are part of their everyday life. A book is like a best friend who will never walk away from you.
Books are packed with knowledge, insights into a happy life, life lessons, love, fear, prayer and helpful advice.
Through reading, you expose yourself to new things, new information, new ideas, new ways to solve a problem, and new ways to achieve a goal. Reading might help you discover hobbies or exploring things you didn’t know you like. Exploration begins from reading and understanding.
When you read you have more to think. Reading gives you a unique pause button for understanding and insight. The benefits of this increased activity helps to keep the memory sharp and the learning capacity agile.
