I am interested to do neuronal tracing by Golgi- Cox modified method. In order to perform this method - brain tissue sections has to be decolorized in 15% amfix (ref: Theory and practice of histological techniques by John D Bancroft, 6th edition, P.375-76).It would be a great help for me, if someone provides the details (i.e chemical composition, manufacturer) about it.
The only Amfix that I know of is a photographic fixer that used to be made by Kodak. Also found here.

As silver staining is very related to photography, it sounds logical. In the protocol of silver stains there is always a step, where the free silverions are bound (fixed) by 5%Sodiumthiosulfate (also called Hypo) and washed aways. Otherwise the silverions would be reduced by sunlight, which leads to black deposits. If you don't have Amifx, I would try 5% Hypo.
