I am conducting a research on recycling of lithium ion batteries. by using the ICP test i have found out that the concentration of Ni in the leach liquor is 10 times higher than the Li or Co ( the main components of LiCoO2 the usual cathodic material). where did this nickel come from ? what was it role in LiB?
Ni acts as critical raw material in formation of cathodes for Li-ion battery market. Ni and also Co are used in the production of precursor materials which are converted to cathode active material for use in these batteries. It is generally present in the form of hydrated sulphate, NiSO4.6H2O.
in results of the ICP test, there is both Co and Ni with different concentrations.
if the raw cathodic material is nickel, why is there cobalt ? and why the cobalt concentration is roughly equal to lithium not the nickel?
