In many coloured powders having some base material ex. chalk powder, what is the relation between the colour intensity, pigment content and physical appearance of colour of the material? Are these parameters related or different? Can we assess the pigment intensity or content by measuring colour of the material? Is there any easy way to quantify the pigment content by any non-destructive or chemical analytical method?
I think that if the pigment dispersion is homogeneous, the color intensity, which is nothing more than the amount of light of that reflected wavelength, will be proportional to the concentration of the pigment, as in spectrophotometry. But if the concentration is too high, it may not be a linear phenomenon. In any case, a calibration curve is necessary to determine the concentration. I hope I have helped!
