I have seen many places production of data of major crops like wheat and rice are available in public domain (through internet) since 1960 (?earlier). I wish to acquire data of spices area, production and productivity data of India since 1960 or even earlier (better). I request RG colleagues to help me resolve this issue.
To the best of my knowledge, systematic data collection for spices started from 1991-92 onwards.
Production data for past 5 years (though very sparse and mostly projective) is available from spice board website-

I have a feeling that even if we succeed in gathering older data, it would mostly be wild estimates (which obviously means erroneous)
It might be given in the local & even national newspapers getting published from the area of production. You will have to go through their archives.
Thank you, all. Malhotra sir, I could also get the info from 1991. However, Spices enquiry committee was formed in 1951. Hence, I suspect that data must have collected since then or a bit later. The source may the be library of planning commission. Now Niti Ayog has taken our, there is an immediate need to delve in to the old data and digitalize the same. Any other sources?
I think NHB database would help. Of course, for the old one i doubt.

Yes Dr. Sonawane, the old data I am looking at. I have data since 1990. I am looking for the data earlier to 1990. I will try to see what Ag. Census offers Madam Dr. Potdar.
Agriculture Census is published from Ministry of Agriculture. I am aware, this publication does not have data on spices which you needed.
