The media used in Gelatin Hydrolysis is different from Motility. I hope this clarifies or help you inquiry.

So if gelatin stab culture is done indicate motility, then Bacillus anthracis would not produce the inverted fir tree appearance as it is not motile, or because of its lack of motility will the growth be only around the stab , therefore exhibiting an inverted fir tree appearance?

FThis appearance is due to liquefaction of gelatin by the bacterium. Since it is aerobic, more liquefaction is seen at or just below the top.
