Generally speaking, the philosophy of cosmology has long been concerned with the foundational and philosophical issues and assumptions concerning cosmological theories . As an illustration, philosophical issues dominating the ‘ingredient theories’ of cosmology such as general relativity have brought about and led to cosmological implications or uses of quantum mechanics, quantum field theory and thermodynamics, etc. Speculations about new cosmology have been rare and practically nonexistent until recently when specific overview articles addressing the issue are coming back (e.g., Ellis , 2007 & Smeenk 2013). These articles have opened up new vistas aiming to provide new sources of inspiration for further exploration and mapping of different domains of cosmology addressing the implications of the limits of our observational access to distant domains of the universe, designing possible tests for evaluating rival models and of consistency within the standard cosmological models. The main objective is to provide a deeper understanding into the way we see ourselves in the world .

Dear Dr. Rose Nkechi Uchem,

Building on Crookes’ (2009) polemical views about the main components of metaphysics, even though we are necessarily in an abstract realm, cosmology is particularly abstract. Questions in this area include how the universe came about and developed. However, we can also ask whether it has a purpose, at which point we are close to "What is the meaning of life?," which can inform questions like, "Why am I/why do I want to be a teacher?."

New Cosmology seems to be a lot of wishful thinking about how nice life could be, while accepting the possibility of life on other planets, and hoping for breakthrough technology that allows rapid human advancement. It seems to lack support from academic communities and scientific methods.

One version has an expanding and accelerating universe with no dark energy, but also no beginning and no end. It doesn’t explain CMB or why all the Quasars are far away in the long ago.

Hooman Davoudiasl, group leader in the High-Energy Theory Group at Brookhaven National Laboratory and an author on the paper stated that a fundamental theory of nature can explain certain phenomena, but it may not always end up giving you the right amount of dark matter.

Thank you so much, Nirmala. Your contribution is right to the point and it has struck a chord in me. These are among the few resources I have come across. Another author that deals with these issues in his writings is Diarmuid O'Murchu, an English-Irish missionary of the Sacred Heart priest. One of the most inspirational pieces I have read was by Judy Cannato, Radical Amazement.' From rg indications, many scholars have not yet wakened to the reality and implications of the new cosmology. It might mean that I should do well to develop my project in this area. Once again thank you very much.

For most of the 20th century, cosmologists held a fairly simple picture of the evolution of the Universe: It began with the Big Bang in which the Universe was very hot and extremely dense. From that inception, the Universe expanded, meaning that space stretched, thereby causing the temperature to drop and matter/energy to spread out. Eventually, the structures we observe today (everything from atoms to galaxy clusters) emerged. The theoretical foundation for the development of our Universe, known as the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmological model or the Standard Model of cosmology, underwent an important modification in the late 20th century and, due to recent precise astronomical measurements, has experienced dramatic changes. When all the recent astronomical observations are taken into account, the parameters that govern the cosmology of our Universe are now determined with unprecedented precision. The age of the Universe is about 13.5 billion years with an uncertainty of less than 500 million years! The contributions to W from the cosmological constant, from dark matter and from proton/neutron are respectively about 0.7, 0.25 and 0.045. The Hubble expansion rate is 0.69 kilometers per second per megaparsec (to an accuracy of 0.02). Results are consistent with inflation: W=1 to within 10%, and the spectrum of density fluctuations is the predicted one within experimental errors.      The earlier 20th-century simple picture of our world as a de-accelerating, expanding Universe driven by the mass of ordinary matter has been supplanted by a new cosmology: It is now believed, and there is some evidence to support this, that inflation took place at less than a tiny fraction of a second during which space underwent an enormous expansion. During the past 13 billion years, space has been expanding but at increasing rates, that is, the Universe is accelerating. Most of this expansion is driven not by the mass in protons and neutron but by a cosmological constant and by mysterious, unknown dark matter. It's a strange, strange world indeed!
