Without prejudges, Eiffel Tower is perhaps the most famous monument in the world, and the icon for Paris and France, If not, what do you think is the most famous monument around the World?
Alternatively, suppose I am looking for top tourist attraction (monuments, palaces, and museums) with address and photos in your country. What would be your recommendation? Your answer is highly appreciated.
Dear all,
Iran has a lot of tourist attractions. In my opinion, Shiraz-my home town- is a wonderful city for tourists.
The Tomb of Hafez and its associated memorial hall, the Hāfezieh (حافظیه), are two memorial structures erected in the northern edge of Shiraz, Iran, in memory of the celebrated Persian poet Hafez. The open pavilion structures are situated in the Musalla Gardens on the north bank of a seasonal river and house the marble tomb of Hafez. The present buildings, built in 1935 and designed by the French architect and archaeologist André Godard, are at the site of previous structures, the best-known of which was built in 1773. The tomb, its gardens, and the surrounding memorials to other great figures are a focus of tourism in Shiraz.

I belive Petra is the most visited tourist attraction in Jordan. Petra was the impressive capital of the Nabataean kingdom from around the 6th century BC. The kingdom was absorbed into the Roman Empire in AD 106 and the Romans continued to expand the city. An important center for trade and commerce, Petra continued to flourish until a catastrophic earthquake destroyed buildings and crippled vital water management systems around AD 663.

Thank you dear Mahfuz. I hope to visit your country one day to see you and Petra.
These days, Iran is becoming a hot new tourist destination. In case you visit us in Iran I recommend you to visit Persepolis (Takht - e - Jamshid) in Shiraz. Persepolis is the capital of the Achaemid empire and one of the world’s most magnificient ancient sites, was declared a world heritage site in 1979 by Unesco
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Unfortunately nothing left since 2003 (invasion year), Even though Iraq is/ was the cradle of civilization (Old Mesopotamia)!!!
Dear Hazim
You have Karbala. Karbala is one of the most important places for us because it is the site of the Shrine of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and a much-revered Shi'a martyr. It is also home to the Shrine of Abbas, Imam Hussain's loyal brother. It is one of the holiest cities to us, beside Mecca, Medina, Najaf, and Mashhad.
In India, TAJ MAHAL is the most visited tourist attraction for Indian as well foreign tourists. It is also believed to be one of the top wonders of the world. It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beautiful wife Mumtaj, whom he loved very much.
In Tanjore, Tamil Nadu., The Brihadeshwarar temple, 1000 years old temple known for its several features of architecture. One of the UNESCO heritage site.
Amritsar is a city with a splendid blend of tradition and culture. With important religious centers and historical sites, the city reveals a magnificent past and a promising future. The city is known as the Jewel of Punjab. Golden temple is one of the most sacred pilgrimage spots for Sikhs. The temple derives its name from its fully golden dome. The temple is built over marble and is two storied high structure.
Dear @Mahmoud, people mostly visit Belgrade as a capitol, while one of the most visited attraction in Belgrade is Belgrade Fortress!

Dear Mahmoud Omid,
Good Day,
All you are mentioned are not "tourist attraction"! they are holy cites as you mentioned, but even though are not as we Iraqis want them to be, we want them to modernized with nice/ good hotels, with excellent services that suits the holy cities and the holy shrines in them. The cities are not that clean or organized, I am so sorry to say that!!
if you compare them to mashhad, Qom or isfahan they are not comparable regarding all what I mentioned!! I am so sorry about that!!
Dear Hazim.
Thank you. Still, Karbala is the most visited and attracted place from all over the world (as pilgrims or tourists). Iraq's Arbaeen is world's most populous annual gathering. The pilgrims show their commitment to the Shia imam by walking tens of miles barefoot. Millions of Shia Muslims from across the world (more than 25 millions) are taking part in a march toward Iraq’s holy shrine city of Karbala to attend mourning rituals on Arba’een, which marks 40 days after the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Last year, Iraqi officials announced that the number of pilgrims attending the mourning rituals of Arba’een reached 17.5 million in Karbala. The number of Arba’een pilgrims reportedly hit 20 million in 2013.

Algeria remains to be a fascinating country. Places to visit include the regions of Tassili N’Ajjer and Hoggar, both listed as UNESCO Heritage Sites. These are place where local color is rife in the everyday lives of traditional Algerian tribes. There is also the Algiers, where the old meets the new to showcase an interesting mix of Algeria’s colonial past and hopeful present. Timimoun provides visitors a slice of the Sahara desert; it is made interesting by the sand dunes that divide the region in two.
Because of its geographical location, the weather in Algeria is mildly wet during winters but can get extremely hot and dry during the summer. To enjoy the coastal area, it is recommended you travel during the months of spring and summer. On the other hand, the Saharan region is best enjoyed between the late autumn and the early spring months between November and April.
Although the government has taken steps to ensure the safety of tourists, it is still advisable to check safety advisories. Because Algeria has gained an unfavorable reputation in how they treat visitors, it is best to exercise precaution before finalizing your plans, whether back-packing or other outdoor activities.

Dear Mahmoud Omid,
The rich historical, cultural and natural heritage of the country attracts visitors from all over the world. Untouched nature, mineral springs, the world's only oil field treatment - naphthalene, a unique ancient architecture, unique culture, cuisine, and more contribute to the formation in Azerbaijan of all types of tourism: business, sport, medical, cognitive, hunting, exotic, beach and even gastronomic.
Azerbaijan is a territory of 9-out of 11 of the world's climatic zones. Climate of our country enables to organize summer and winter holidays. Very common are ecological tours to Azerbaijan, which include visits to nature reservations, trekking and climbing routes. Midday sandy beaches offer opportunities for diving, and swimming season starts in Azerbaijan in May.
Tourism sector in Azerbaijan is developing day by day, becoming one of the most important sectors of the economy.

Despite its natural attractions, the most visited place in Argentina is the City of Buenos Aires, which many tourists describe as a mix of Paris and New York.
In the subtropical northern region of the country, a major tourist attraction are the Iguazú Falls, which we share with Brazil.
In the cold southern region of Patagonia there are many destinations: the Perito Moreno Glacier, the city of Bariloche, and Valdes Peninsula, which is a marine wildlife natural reserve (whales, sea lions and the like).

Democratic Republic of Algeria is a countryside within the Maghreb. In terms of earth area, it’s the prime country on the Mediterranean and beyond, the biggest in the Arab world and second-major around the African continent after Sudan, and also the eleventh-largest country in the world.
Below the best tourist destinations in Algeria:
Algiers
Algires harbor full of oil and has a fertile coastal plain. To begin with was built by the French because the 132-years ago and ended in 1962. If you’re interested in this place, you should are available in the winter with the weather a little cloudy. Enjoy views from the boats around the pier / harbor or mountain landscape round the beach.
Oran
The western coast around Oran, Algeria’s second city, has historic remains and mosques.
Sahara desert
Sahara desert
If you see, the sand here a lot and have a dry natural conditions. Saharan sand dunes occupy under one-fifth of the Sahara with a height around 150 feet (46 meters). The Sahara is easily the most striking and also most forbidding feature of the nation. The best way to enter the south would be to cross the El Kautara Gorges to the south of Constantine. The sudden peek at the Sahara through the El Kautara Gorges is breathtaking. These gorges have been demonstrated to separate the winter areas in the land of everlasting summer and therefore are called Fouur Es Sahra (‘the Sahara’s mouth’) by the inhabitants.

Let me introduce a contemporary monument in Tehran:Milad Tower (Borj-e Milad). It is 435m telecommunications tower opened in 2007, with an observation deck and a revolving restaurant. is a multi-purpose tower in Tehran, Iran. It is the sixth tallest tower (last attached picture) and the 17th tallest freestanding structure in the world. It offers a wonderful view from the top. If you want to see Tehran at a glance, here are the best. You can simply go to the top of the tower with a fast glass elevator. You can get a 360 degree view of the whole area by moving in a circle along the corridor of the tower.

The largest country in the continent of Africa, Algeria has a diverse landscape and lots to offer travellers. The journey from Europe is only a short one but the difference between the two continents is immediately noticeable and provides a sense of adventure and intrigue for tourists. Algeria has many charming cities with winding streets and stunning architecture, Mediterranean coast, lush landscapes and roman ruins to rival anywhere in the world.
The main attraction in the country however is the Saharan region where the never-ending sand and the mysterious and lively cities are enough to indulge even the most seasoned traveller’s imagination.
Despite advise about the country not being safe to travel and certain regions being off limits. Most Algerians greet tourists with warm welcomes and are happy to share their way of life with any guests to their country. All the same, any trip to this beautiful country should be well researched to ensure that all travel rules are adhered with.

The Vakil Mosque (Persian: مسجد وکیل - Masjed-e Vakil) is a mosque in Shiraz, southern Iran, situated to the west of the Vakil Bazaar next to its entrance. This mosque was built between 1751 and 1773, during the Zand period; however, it was restored in the 19th century during the Qajar period. Vakil means regent, which was the title used by Karim Khan, the founder of Zand Dynasty. Shiraz was the seat of Karim Khan’s government and he endowed many buildings, including this mosque.
Vakil Mosque covers an area of 8,660 square meters. It has only two iwans instead of the usual four, on the northern and southern sides of a large open court. The iwans and court are decorated with typical Shirazi haft rangi tiles, a characteristic feature of the art and industry of Shiraz during the latter half of the 18th century. Its night prayer hall (Shabestan), with an area of approximately 2,700 square meters, contains 48 monolithic pillars carved in spirals, each with a capital of acanthus leaves. The minbar in this hall is cut from a solid piece of green marble with a flight of 14 steps and is considered to be one of the master pieces of the Zand period. The exuberant floral decorative tiles largely date from the Qajar period.

Dear RG members,
Dr. Mahmoud Omid mentioned about Persepolis. I want to introduce more that place.
Persepolis (Old Persian: Pārśa, New Persian: تخت جمشيد Takht-e Jamshid or پارسه Pārseh), literally meaning "city of Persians",[3] was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire (ca. 550–330 BCE). Persepolis is situated 60 km northeast of the city of Shiraz in Fars Province in Iran. The earliest remains of Persepolis date back to 515 BCE. It exemplifies the Achaemenid style of architecture. UNESCO declared the ruins of Persepolis a World Heritage Site in 1979.

A country who need to be visited, should built an industrial tissue of leisure, public transport, accommodation, touristic tours etc... and should focus on special duties of its historical and cultural heritage as well as its natural park. Tourism is an industrial and economic activity highly reached by many countries for its high economic value, the tissue of this activity need to be continuously updated and upgraded for its competitive attraction market
Goa, the smallest state by area and the 4th smallest state by population, a Portuguese colony for 450 years with documentary evidence of human life since 20,000 years with its upper Paleolithic or Mesolithic rock engravings and Portuguese architectural marvels and its serene beaches, Goa is undoubtedly second to Taj Mahal among the tourist destinations in India
Khwaju Kermani (Persian: خواجوی کرمانی), whose full name is Abu’l-ʿAṭā Kamāl-al-Din Maḥmud b. ʿAli b. Maḥmud Morshedi (1280–1352), was a famous Persian poet and Sufi mystic from Persia.
He was born in Kerman, Iran in 24 December 1290. His nickname Khwaju is a diminutive of the Persian word Khwaja which he uses as his poetic penname. This title points to descent from a family of high social status. The nisba (name title) Morshedi indicates his associate with the Persian Sufi master Shaykh Abu Eshaq Kazeruni, the founder of the Morshediyya order. He died around 1349 in Shiraz, Iran, and his tomb in Shiraz is a popular tourist attraction today. When he was young, he visited Egypt, Syria, Jerusalem and Iraq. He also performed the Hajj in Mecca. One purpose of his travel is said to have been education and meeting with scholars of other lands. He composed one his best known work Homāy o Homāyun in Baghdad. Returning to Iranian lands in 1335, he strove to find a position as a court poet by dedicating poems to the rulers of his time, such as the Il-Khanid rulers Abu Saʿid Bahādor Khan and Arpa Khan, the Mozaffarid Mubariz al-Din Muhammad, and Abu Esshaq of the Inju dynasty.

For many reasons, historical, theological, anthropological, ..., it is perhaps - at least for me - the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Just a few of us are aware that these two temples build up by the Hebrews to pray G.od, were accessible to all nations and to anyone willing to recollect in a spirit of tolerance and humanism. It's certainly for now a point that we should highlight to be able to fight with efficiency racism and violence.

Jerusalem is the most visited city in the middle east because of the Aqsa Mosque and Church of the Holy Sepulchre
Thank you dear Dr. Shumali for introducing Aqsa Mosque. In fact, Quds is the Persian name for the city of Jerusalem. Al-Quds is the Arabic name for the city of Jerusalem. It is the short form of Arabic Beit al-Quds and comes from the verb qádusa, which means "to be holy", "to be pure".
Last summer I've visited Belarus for the first time. There are many beautiful places there, too. The local people are very kind. I made these few pictures by myself, so they are not perfect, sorry.

Known tourist attractions of Hungary can be find mainly in Budapest: some of them
the building of Parliament
the castle of Buda
the museum of fine arts
the Matthias church
the curve of Danube
However, not these are the real treasures of a country. The real riches can be recognised only by getting familiar with the history, culture, the territory of a country and the way how people approach and assimilate the countryside and the beautifulness of their motherland.

Badab-e Surt, Sari, Iran
Badab-e Surt is a natural site in Mazandaran Province in northern Iran, 95 km south of the city of Sari, and 7 km west of Orost village. Badab-e surt comprises a range of stepped travertine terrace formations created over thousands of years as flowing water from two mineral hot springs cooled and deposited carbonate minerals on the mountainside. It a wonderful place.
P.S.: Badab-e Surt is registered as Iran’s second natural site in 2008. Damavand Mount, Badab-e Surt Springs and Abarkouh Cedar were three natural sites registered by Cultural Heritage Organization in 2008.

Tourism is the more peaceful mean to let people join, discover each other, understand others, be more careful with nature and with all the human cultural and historical heritage; and be more cooperative with others. Tourism should be encouraged every where and should be an active economic income of each country. It should be affordable to the majority who need to organize their holidays.. Even the frontiers should be opened to let people free with their destinations and discoveries. The notions of the visas is the very stupid mean to split between human. Police control with their modern tools are every where in every frontier, so why do not let people move where they want freely?? usually people with no sufficient incomes do not plan for tourism
Dear Mario, Jamal and Omer, Thank you for your suggestion. Could you be more specific, please? If possible, with the name, location and picture of the place.
P.S. PETRA was introduced by dear Mahfuz Judeh already.
Thank you,
Mahmoud
I would like make a small remark about the circulation of people throughout visa application. Personally i haven't any problem with it; however embassies are sound to be the mean between states consultations and cooperation at political level, not the mean of police control of citizens of other countries. i think it is not the best mean to control clandestine immigration whose people do not ask for circulation approval and usually use other means.
In addition some employees of some embassies could be interested by some corruption tools and could make personal relationships with some people according to their personal interests or could be invested or interested by some secret organizations for some political interests may be they could make clandestine recruitment of people for the purpose of their interests in their country and the country where they are affected .... etc... This could disturb the states' relationships as well as the job of police control in each country

Dear All,
Thank you so much for introducing your beautiful country to us. For my share, let me introduce you with Tehran, the capital of Iran. Apart from Milad Tower popular tourist attraction, as I introduced before, Tehran has many more tourist attractions. Here I show a few, just in case to have a plan to visit us.
Tehran (Iran) tourist attractions:
Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization and some of the world’s most famous monuments, including the Giza pyramids, the Great Sphinx and the ancient temples of Luxor dating back thousands of years. Although focus of most tourist visits remains the great monuments along the Nile, possibilities for Egyptian travel also includes snorkeling and diving along the Red Sea coast. Other tourist attractions in Egypt include camel trips into the mountains of Sinai, tours to remote oases or visits to the Coptic monasteries of the Eastern Desert.

Sarajevo's Bascarsija (Old Town)
The Old Town 'Bascarsija' may be hard to pronounce but it is certainly one of the most impressive and charming market centers in the country. Bascarsija has been a trading and meeting place since the 15th century as caravans from Asia minor, Dubrovnik and the west met here to trade their wares.
This 16th century dervish order monastery epitomizes the harmonious existence of man and nature. This stunning structure was built at the mouth of the largest source in Herzegovina which gushes from a cave at the base of a 200 meter cliff.
The Trebizat River creates a wonderful green belt amidst the dry landscape of western Herzegovina. This stunning waterfall runs over 100 meters long and drops an impressive 25 meters. Kravica is an ideal place for a picnic or a swim and definitely provides one of the most picturesque sceneries in Herzegovina.
Jajce was the last stronghold of the Bosnian kings before it fell to the invading Ottomans in 1528. Known for the massive waterfall that blesses the heart of the city Jajce represents multiple layers of this regions long history - with traces of Illyrian and Roman finds as well as the distinct Bosnian and Ottoman features. The Pliva Lake region offer world class fly-fishing, as well as great water sports in the lake region.
Locally acclaimed as being one of the last seats of the medieval Bosnian Kingdom this quaint town is a bastion of ancient Bosnian history. From the medieval fortress and Franciscan monastery to one of the oldest mosque's in the country it’s a wonderfully unique rural experience rarely found today in Europe.
This southernmost city in Bosnia and Herzegovina is only 28km from the famous city of Dubrovnik. Trebinje ranks with Mostar and Stolac in terms of beauty but fortunately escaped the fates of these two towns and was not heavily damaged during the war, leaving its old town intact.
The XIV Winter Olympics are long gone, but the slopes still remain, and so does olympic style skiing. Jahorina has made a great comeback as southeast Europe's best ski resort. Great skiing. Great accommodation. Great fun. All just a short ride from the capital Sarajevo.
This Olympic mountain is also making a steady comeback. It was the site of the men’s slalom and is by far the most challenging ski trails in the country. Off the beaten track are ideal spots for cross country and tour skiing, as well as year round hiking, biking, and village tourism in the ancient highland villages.
