Defeating of terrorism over the world especially in Syria and Iraq 

Good news for me in these days are all the people here in Germany who voluntarily help refugees and give them a warm welcome - opposite to other people who unbelievably don't want to give them a home, completely forgetting how many of our parents and grandparents were refugees once, too.

For me "The closure of 12 year false PMD file by IAEA which ended all of the Western claims against my country" was very good news.

Any military conflict world-wide which was resolved, stopped in 2015 was best news for me, Dear Mahmoud. On the personal level ? There were many good news, because speaking facetiously I'm the .

Paris Agreement: At the Paris climate conference (COP21) in December 2015, 195 countries adopted the first-ever universal, legally binding global climate deal.

The agreement sets out a global action plan to put the world on track to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C.

I consider it a great move in the interest of humanity and the Mother Earth

Yes, I think so, dear Omid. It is a victory for peace on the war language. A lesson to the world that there is a chance for peaceful negotiations instead of war. We in Iraq hope to continue to defeat the enemies of humanity and get them out Iraq forever.

Also for 2015 there are at least ten good news, a month, on the subject of human rights. This was communicated as every year, Amnesty International, has always been at the forefront for the respect of fundamental rights by publishing the ranking of victories worldwide.

January, NIGERIA

On January 7, Shell has agreed to compensate the Bodo community in the Niger delta, devastated since 2008 by two oil spills. Legal action launched in 2011 in the UK by the Bodo community, has forced the oil company in a court settlement under which compensate 55 million pounds, of which 35 are distributed among 15,600 people and 20 for the Bodo community. February, EL SALVADOR

Carmen Guadalupe Vasquez, a young woman in 2007, at age 18, was sentenced to 30 years in prison on suspicion of having an abortion illegally, was released from prison on February 20. A month before, on January 22, following a campaign by Amnesty International and other organizations, the National Assembly had voted in favor of grace. Amnesty International

March, Suriname

On March 6, the National Assembly passed the law abolishing the death penalty. The last execution took place in 1982. InternationalAmnesty

April, IRAN April 2 Ghoncheh Ghavami, doomed 2 November 2014 to one year in prison for the crime of "spreading propaganda against the system", then released on bail on Nov. 2, 2014, obtained the commutation of the remaining sentence in A fine. Ghavami, 25, was arrested June 20, 2014 for wanting to see a match of men's volleyball. Amnesty International

May, IRELAND

May 22, Ireland became the 19th country in the world and the first in a referendum to introduce the law of marriage equality regardless of sexual orientation. A historic success, which also contributed to the 'yes' campaign of Amnesty International Ireland. Amnesty International

June, CAMEROON

After a campaign of Amnesty International, 84 minors arrested at the end of 2014, in a Koranic school on suspicion that they were indoctrinated by Boko Haram, were released between 24 and 30 June. Amnesty International

July, BELIZE

On July 13, the last man awaiting execution, Glenford Baptist, on death row since 2000 for murder, has obtained the commutation of the sentence by the Supreme Court. The death row in the country was so drained. Amnesty International

August, SYRIA

Mazen Darwish, director of the Syrian Center for Media and freedom of expression, was released on August 10. He was arrested, along with other colleagues, in mid-February of 2012, for spurious charges of terrorism. Amnesty International launched a campaign for their release. Amnesty International

September, ETHIOPIA

On September 16, after 539 days of detention, a federal court has acquitted bloggers Natnael Feleke, Atnaf Berhane and Abel Waleba of all charges of terrorism. Soliyana Gebremichael, another blogger in exile in the US is statp in turn acquitted. Amnesty International

October, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

On October 30, after 13 years of imprisonment in the detention center in Guantanamo, the Saudi Arabian national Shaker Hamer, he was released and returned to the UK, where he resides, being married to a British. He was arrested in 2002 in Afghanistan on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization but was never formally charged or tried. Hamer is the sixteenth person released from Guantanamo in 2015, where there are still 111 prisoners. Amnesty International

November, INDONESIA

November 19, Filep Karma, activist for the independence of Papua, has been released after serving two-thirds of the 15-year sentence, imposed on May 26 for having waved a year earlier, the Papuan banduera at a public event. Amnesty International adopted him as a prisoner of conscience and in 2011 it was reported among the cases of the marathon "Write for Rights", sending over 65 thousand messages of solidarity. December, MEXICO

December 2 Cristel Pina, 25, a mother of two, was released after spending more than two years in prison. She was arrested in 2013 and subjected to rape and other torture to confess to scoring movies compromising for extortion, a charge later revealed as false. Always Dec. 2 Adrina Vasquez, bus driver and father of four, was released after spending more than three years in prison. The man had been arrested in 2012 and tortured to confess to being a major drug trafficker, a charge later revealed as false. Amnesty International

During 2015, many joyful and sad news. I hope that we do not hear in 2016, but the good news and to all the peoples of the world.

Something else just coming to my mind, reading your interesting comments, and actually not really new:

It is always good to see that scientists like us, coming from countries all around the world, can discuss important topics peacefully, independent of our religions, nationalities etc. This gives kind of hope that education can help curing some of the world's problems.

In fact, what you are saying is not surprising. This should be the true spirit of any scientific network. There is no boarder, math, physics, chemistry, etc are all the same everywhere. We are all independent in a way. Keep up the good spirit.

According to an English saying "No News is Good News" so the best good news in 2015 were in the few days in which the press reported just the news of the day before. This may sound gloomy or depressing but as thoughtful scholars what have we seen or heard ?: A continuous global warming, the middle East & North Africa in constant turmoil or civil wars, more trouble in the economies of many countries, more violence in a number of cities, and refugees fleeing for their lives across the globe with some of them losing their lives.

Let us hope that 2016 brings about peace, prosperity, "honest" politics, and more progress in science & technology on global scale.

A new phrase from last year! The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's succinct “Because it's 2015” explanation of his new, half-female cabinet has attracted international attention. Asked why he felt gender equality in the Cabinet was important, he said simply: ‘Because it is 2015.’  If you are aware of similar (interesting, humorous, weird, unusual, strange, odd, ...) phrases during 2015 by politicians, celebrities, etc., please share it.
