I have been performing a Multiphase flow simulation to observe the droplet formation when the water comes out of the nozzle. I want to set up this simulation in Ansys Fluent 2020R1. I have gone theory guide which is available in Ansys package however, I could not find out the required answer that I was looking for. Can anyone guide me through this?
DPM ( Discrete phase model) is appropriate for your water injection purpose.

ANSYS Fluent has developed something, which they name "VOF-2-DPM" as a combination of an Eulerian VOF simulation for the more or less continuous fluid jet which leaves the nozzle unless the surface instabilities lead to a breakup of the jet and formation of smaller fluid ligaments. If the size of the ligaments becomes to small in order to get them represented on the underlying mesh (ligament size in the order of 5-10 mesh cells or even smaller), than the fluid mass gets transferred into DPM droplets which are then further tracked as DPM particles. In the meanwhile a couple of papers have been published about this method and Fluent is making advertisements for it.
In my honest opinion a pure DPM method can be used, but has its limitations for a predictive analysis of spray atomization. This is mainly because the process of the primary and secondary spray breakup is all modeled. For a known liquid and known nozzle time in a well know range of acting pressure this is more or less working. If the target is the development into new fields of interest it is not an accurate and predictive method anymore, but subject to larger modeling errors.
