The impact of social media on people and their behavior is enormous. In my opinion, this impact is predominantly positive, but it must be borne in mind that there are or may be negative aspects as well. The exchange of ideas between people of very different cultures allows a keen understanding of the people themselves, religions, cultural traditions of peoples, etc.. Dialogue approaches peoples. People who have a dialogue have no reason to go to war. Unfortunately, the worst or even devastating aspects of social media are mainly on the young or on the very young people who have not yet completed a school cycle, and on people who are not yet fully culturally equipped to handle a powerful tool such as the social media. Because they do not realize the devastating impact that their actions or words may be have on people.

With several scientific and psychological journals pointing out significant facts about the narcissistic habits of social media, there remains other causes of major concern, e.g.- eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem levels
It has a great impact on the social behavior of human beings, and in all aspects of life. I would just like to mention that these questions have been repeated in different forms and with one answer.
Genuinely assessing the impact of social media on human behaviour one must admit the existence of both positive as well as negative influences.
The world has been united by the touch of a button, bringing friends, families as well as business associates to a platform of virtual interaction.
At the same time, social media has rudely interrupted every day and minute socializing by the presence of selfies, food photos and group pics. The average human is now fascinated by these preferences that blessing a meal before consuming or discussing and sharing valuable lessons learned from the day’s activities with each other at dinner time.
Families sitting together are now lost in silence except for the occasional outburst of laughter from an amusing video received. The health hazards identified that will affect people include but are not limited to: thumb pain and index finger disorder as well as muscular spasms in the neck region of the anatomy.
There is too much unfiltered rubbish in social media like Facebook or Twitter - therefore it enforces many stupid and uninformed discussions. Humans tend to remember the most stupid stuff and transport that in their real life. I think a scientific platform like RG has a much more positive effect because academic people think more critical and cannot be easily affected by poor contents.
Maybe our mission must be to 'invade' Facebook or Twitter with our high quality input and force out the stupid stuff. Unfortunately, I think we are too few scientists compared to the huge number of ... sorry ... idiots!

There are a lot of impact of social media on human behaviour. Some people define the social media that it is real life, also they define tha real life that it is not real. And people share in social media their dissatisfaction for their experience of shopping, but they share less in social media their satisfaction...
Two important impacts:
1. Positive--- Moreinformation and faster communication
2. Negative--- Overburdened with information and receive unwanted communication
I live in Kolkata, India. In India , the generations between a rough age group of 15-40 are almost entirely engulfed by different Social Media. Leave the students (from High School to University) or the unemployed or partially employed persons (where it rate is nearly 100%), many (if not most) of the on duty nurses, teachers of different ranks (from Primary school teacher to University Professors), employees of the clerical categories even the persons engaged in very busy professions like traffic police and bank clerks are eyes on the screen of ANDROID/SMART PHONES in some social media pages when just they get a small gap in their the duty.
It is creating many problems in quality and quantity of work, concentration in studies and work and in many other related aspects.
IT IS BECOMING AN ADDICTION OF ADULT POPULATION
I don't know the outcome of such addiction.
I don't know the fate of our country in the hand of such addicted people.
I don't know the fate of such people in future.

Leonardo was wholly right, even he was modest when a characterising the consequences of media effects. He pointed rightly to that unfortunately the negative impacts of media activity dominate. It means that the mass media, mainly TV but also internet resources try to bring out the worst human traits from ordinary people. These are preconception, bias, hate, egoism. I think that the developmental state of democracy in a country may be proportional with the manipulative force of media. Another fact which may be favourable for the negative media effects is the ignorance and the lack of education.
Very often, it causes addiction! There are people who are RG addicted, FB addicted...
Many bad impacts beside some small benefits. Loneliness is one of these bad impacts.
Social networks can harbor a flow of generally undesirable things such as anger and sadness, unhappiness, but good things also flow like happiness, love, altruism, and valuable information. “It is the spread of the good things that vindicates the whole reason we live our lives in networks, In a deep and fundamental way, networks are connected to goodness, and goodness is required for networks to emerge and spread.”
Social media are more faster than conventional medias. It carries even latest NEWS, which conventional medias likely to hide. But they are also a carrier for fake NEWS. So one should check the authenticity of its content.
Internet is like discovery of the technology of sharpening any iron object by the ancient people. Man prepared various instruments and utensils for agriculture, kitchen and daily usable utensils etc. Swords were also made by the same technology which was used mainly to kill other human being. But everybody has not used it. So, the application of swords were very limited and application of sharp iron objects in agriculture and other purposes were far more. Society was benefited by that discovery.

The advantages and disadvantages of the benefits are the speed of communication with the community and access to the news and information in a short time The negatives are false news and rumors and attachment to these sites, which leads to neglect of work and duties

The most important change after social media is that people live in global village, but not aware of local village. People like to be on mobile at the place of discussion with fellows sitting nearby.

Social media has changed not only our powers of thinking, but today governs our behaviour and social conducts as well.
Good question. I guess any can say impact can be negative and can be positive. Hence, in my case, I resorted to social media as a media to communicate with my students and to create discussions and effective interchange of help among the students. It was a success due to many reasons such as fast response and no need for special logins (e.g. blackboard discussion tools) and else.
