I am checking plant endophytic bacteria and i have came accross this finding that there are only sulfur oxidizers and not reducers inside plant. We assume that there is no flux of sulfur reducing species like hydrogen sulfide diffusing from rhizosphere? Also none of the reducers are seen in the rhizosphere... Yes geological conditions says we have high sulfur in the soil and water but what possible mechanisms you can speculate?

Has anyone ever looked for endophytic, sulfate-reducing microbes in the plants of salt marshes? Maybe they are there, undiscovered.

Thank you for your comment. What you mentioned, I was discussing with my supervisor and his point was, "the production of H2S during assimilatory pathway is not really sufficient to drive a microbial cycle". We had 40% of total community as sulfate oxidizers which is a big surprise. But thanks for your comment. It was really helpful.
