I am adding different compounds to agar plate wells which I overlay with a shallow layer of Sabouraud dextrose agar on which i spread Bakers yeast. It takes around 24h to see zones of inhibition on the agar (to the compounds) but I notice that yeast are still present in the inhibition zone, they just havn't developed into the white colonies surrounding this inhibition zone. When I look at both samples under the microscope they seem quite similar but perhaps the colonies outside seem to bud more. Are the yeast colonies which seem transparent in the inhition zone just an earlier form of the mature colonies outside this zone ?
