* Intranigral 6-OHDA injections produce a rapid depletion in the levels of dopamine in the substantia nigra and lead to motor and cognitive impairments.

* Intrastriatal injections produce the same effects however due to the presence of less number of dopaminergic neurons, intranigral injections are more effective in reproducing the cardinal features of PD.

* The substantia nigra has more dopaminergic neurons than the striatum. The substantia nigra is a part of the midbrain that contains a population of dopaminergic neurons that project to the striatum which has around 10% dopaminergic neurons.

* Both the models produce tremors, rigidity, and slowness of movement.

* Apart from the above two, MFB injections also is used to mimic the PD models in Rats.
