Many papers drugs nanoparticles preparation using simple reprecipitation methods are reporting something like "we used polymers eg PVP, HPMC to stabilize or control the particle size "and some more reporting like we encapsulated drug nanoparticles using polymers". What was the difference between this two.
The difference is in the application. Stabilizing has the purpose of making it stable. Encapsulation, which is more general and just means putting inside. Encapsulation can stabilize a drug but can also be for another reason (e.g. slow release, targeting...) . Procedure wise the two can be (but don't have to be) the same.
Stabilize is to coat nanoparticle surface with something that making it stable (to fill broken bonds and stop particle size grow, make appropriate surface potential to stop particle aggregation and so on), to encapsulate is to put a drug inside some compartment (for example, LbL microcapsule), compartment can be larger, than drug nanoparticle, can encapsulate liquid (and stabilize emulsion border), usually it contain some functionalization that can be triggered by some external action or environmental properties. In general, second one is usually referred to more stable coating.
