I heard that there is a place in China that performs about a quarter of all Illumina sequences in the world, do you know the place? Also of course if there are other worthy places I would be happy to hear about them....
Arik, I would suggest you also check out our NGS service exchange at www.blueseq.com. You can use the online tools to define your project and then have dozens of service providers bid on it. You can certainly pick on price, but there are other factors that might be equally important (e.g., turnaround time, application expertise, etc).
Dear Arik, I just noted that it was a pretty old question. Anyway, in case you haven't found yet, it might be helpful. Facing the same question, I finally chose OGT (Oxford Gene Technology) a few months ago, which was even cheapest than any offers from the BGI. And I must say was very satisfied with their service. It was before summer, though, and you may find even better deals now.
They guarantee a sequencing done in 8 weeks. They did it for us in six. In May, we paid about 1200 euros tax included (19.6% taxes in France, I don't know how much it is in Israël). For this price, they were normally supposed to send us only BAM files, but they also offered us to test for free their analysis pipeline.
Another interesting service for about the same price was proposed by Baseclear, located in the Netherlands. The main difference lay in the enrichment of exome sequences: Sureselect v4 from Agilent with OGT, and SeqCap EZ v3 from Nimblegen with Baseclear.
