We want to purchase a homogenizer that assure the extraction of a high-quality RNA; since RNA is fragile and easy to damage. Is there any recommendation?
In truth, any homogeniser as long as it is sold by a medical tech company (e.g. SLS Fisher etc) and not something miscellaneous on (say) amazon is likely to be of standard
What is important during tissue homogenisation for RNA extraction is keeping everything cold:
Thus, I routinely snap freeze my tissue in Liquid nitrogen and then homogenise in a lysis buffer which is designed to keep the RNA stable
Alternatively for small amounts of tissue I have snap frozen and then placed into more liquid nitrogen in a mortar and ground up cold with a pestle before immediately transferring to Lysis buffer on ice and then vigorously pipetting up and down
As what Laurence mentioned, pretty much they are all fine. I personally use the Qiagen TissueLyser II with a steel bead to homogenize mouse liver and adipose tissue. But the key is keeping tissue cold, and working fast
