Dear Colleagues, I am a recently graduated and M.A. student in General Health Psychology at Jaume I University (Castellón, Spain). I am working on a systematic review and I have doubts about the most appropriate tool to assess the risk of bias (RoB). The problem is that most of the appropriate tools for this purpose are aimed at evaluating experimental studies. However, in my review, I have included observational studies, most of them are cross-sectional studies. What is the best form to assess risk of bias in this type of studies?

There are a good number of tools to assess risk of bias in cross-sectional studies mentioned in that paper. Determine which among the tools would be most useful/relevant to your particular topic, based on the methodological and/or reporting issues that they cover/interrogate, preferably with the help of your co-reviewers and/or research adviser.

Thank you so much for recommendations provided here. I would like to also confirm here if Cochrane does not provide assessment tool for cross-sectional studies? Based on the article provided, it seems that JBI is the most preferred tool for cross-sectional assessment isn't if? Can we use different tools for a systematic review quality assessment e.g. RoB2 (RCTs) and ROBIN-I (NRCIs) plus JBI (for cross-sectional)? Is there any reference of reporting quality assessment using different tools? Tq
