Based on my experience working with cellulose filter, fiberglass filter and silic filter, I think it’s better to use cellulose filter because of these reasons:
- Cellulose filter have smooth surface so it’s easier to take the particles from the filter to the gold mirror plate.
- Glass fiber has rough surface, so the micro plastic could be stuck inside, which make it difficult to separate and we could underestimate the amount of micro plastic analyzed.
- Silic filter has smooth surface too, but its small size make it difficult to analyze the sample with dense microplastic, and it’s costly so it is not suitable to analyze numerous environmental samples. It should be use for portable water analysis.
In conclusion, even though each filter has its advantages and disadvantages, I personally think it’s better to use cellulose filter.
