What is the advantage three parameter distribution has over two parameter distribution in L-moments based frequency analysis method.

In standard L-moments ratio method for frequency analysis we have some 11 distribution methods, out of which five are 3 parameter distributions, one is 5 parameter distribution and five are 2 parameter distributions. What are the advantages a 3 parameter or 5 parameter distribution has over 2 parameter distribution.

I agree with Fulvio about the flexibility to adjust to the data, but would like to add that the more parameters a distribution has, more uncertain the estimates will be for a fixed record length.
