I wish to direct the researchers to think of using a dog's lung structure or cells to guide us how to develop a medicine or vaccine or treatment for diseases such as corona.
Dogs can become infected with SARS-CoV-2 and many other forms of coronaviruses. The do not appear to become as sick, and that may be due to a more limited number of cell types the virus is able to infect.
Dogs also do get a number of allergies and asthma. I believe the apparent lower incidence of these may be related to their more diverse microbiome. Dogs are good at eating all kinds of things off the ground, including the poop from other animals, including a lot of dirt they ingest and inhale. So bottom line - 'eat dirt' and you may be healthier.
Is that we can learn what cell types are inflectable and how can dogs still have strong lungs despite having different cell types than humans.
Robert John Wolff is talking about the Hygiene Hypothesis that has received a lot scientific support. I tend to agree with this hypothesis.
However, I think it's very unlikely for dogs to be a good model of corona infection or pathogenesis because they're already one step ahead of humanity (they have advanced already to the immunization step without bothering with masks, social distancing, hand washing, huge economical losses or Planet Lockdown). Chinaza Godswill Awuchi thank you for the references, both articles are extremely wonderful. But I still would be interested at some research which brings out why the virus is not being transmitted by such animals like dogs. What peculiarity they have in their lung cells that humans don't. And how it at all that makes it possible to develop a technique/ tool or drug using their lung cells to prevent infections.
