Our mind is a very important part of our body as it is to the process of our mind which may help us to carry out our day to day action .With the importance of our mind we should not forget that we all are human beings under a different action of our life. This difference of mind can be measure under intelligence with for our regular routine of life we may identify our intelligence throw our mind as follows
1 Below Average Average Above Average - Good -Very Good -Excellent & Genius
Our Mind is a regular working process , never gets tired for our satisfaction we have to change our action for the purpose of changing our reaction of our Mind .As we all know that our mind has a powerful energy force & what we are going to be our mind plays a very important part but at this stage we should not consider our mind as a routine process as it has to work thru our conscious & subconscious mind .
At the same time we should not forget that we as human being have with us 5 elements .for which we must control the same in a day to day action for preparing for successful life line in our career ,day to day performance & also as a human being to play a part in our family & the society .
We may add here that we may along with our birth have brought with us the resulting fruits of our action of previous lives positive /Negative which may also nurture our life style. It is in this line we find everywhere in the world a person of different reaction & as such what we see in our society today .It is thru our mind only we can make our society ,or the world a place for peaceful living .
Mind is the controller of body which is an unformed gamut that functions to perceive and understand objects, actions, and conditions and dictates the body organs to act accordingly. Being formless or non-physical, it is not thwarted by any physical odds and ends
I don't think we can find an answer to this question because to get a correct answer we have to think. Mind being the major instrument for such action there is every possibility that we will be caught in a cyclic reasoning.
There is no universally agreed definition of what a mind is and what its distinguishing properties are, although there is a lengthy tradition of inquiries in philosophy, religion, psychology and cognitive science. The main open question regarding the nature of the mind is mind–body problem, which investigates the relation of the mind to the physical brain and nervous system. Typical viewpoints include dualism and idealism, which consider the mind somehow separate from physical existence, and physicalism and functionalism, which hold that the mind is roughly identical with the brain or reducible to physical phenomena such as neuronal activity. Another question concerns which types of beings are capable of having minds, for example whether mind is exclusive to humans, possessed also by some or all animals, by all living things, or whether mind can also be a property of some types of man-made machines.
Whatever its nature, it is generally agreed that mind is that which enables a being to have subjective awareness and intentionality towards their environment, to perceive and respond to stimuli with some kind of agency, and to have consciousness, including thinking and feeling.
The concept of mind is understood in many different ways by many different cultural and religious traditions. Some see mind as a property exclusive to humans whereas others ascribe properties of mind to non-living entities (e.g. panpsychism and animism), to animals and to deities. Some of the earliest recorded speculations linked mind (sometimes described as identical with soul or spirit) to theories concerning both life after death, and cosmological and natural order, for example in the doctrines of Zoroaster, the Buddha, Plato, Aristotle, and other ancient Greek, Indian and, later, Islamic and medieval European philosophers."....
Thanks for your invitation and valuable comments. I would like to add that "Mind is a type of Governor that govern and manages the whole body system". The element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought. A person's ability to think and reason; the intellect.
"Our minds are created within relationships – including the one that we have with ourselves… Each of us has a unique mind: unique thoughts, feelings, perceptions, memories, beliefs, and attitudes, and a unique set of regulatory patterns. These patterns shape the flow of energy and information inside us, and we share them with other minds."
---- Dr. Daniel Siegel, a professor of psychiatry at UCLA school of Medicine

Dear @Shafagat, thanks for sharing the question. Let me bring some related threads with many good answers. My dear friend @Costas stated nicely: "Brain is the "hardware" whereas mind is the "software".
"One of the fundamental views in Buddhism is the principle of "dependent origination." This states that all phenomena, both subjective experiences and external objects, come into existence in dependence upon causes and conditions; nothing comes into existence uncaused. Given this principle, it becomes crucial to understand what causality is and what types of cause there are. In Buddhist literature, two main categories of causation are mentioned: (i) external causes in the form of physical objects and events, and (ii) internal causes such as cognitive and mental events.
The reason for an understanding of causality being so important in Buddhist thought and practice is that it relates directly to sentient beings' feelings of pain and pleasure and the other experiences that dominate their lives, which arise not only from internal mechanisms but also from external causes and conditions. Therefore it is crucial to understand not only the internal workings of mental and cognitive causation but also their relationship to the external material world.
The fact that our inner experiences of pleasure and pain are in the nature of subjective mental and cognitive states is very obvious to us. But how those inner subjective events relate to external circumstances and the material world poses a critical problem. The question of whether there is an external physical reality independent of sentient beings' consciousness and mind has been extensively discussed by Buddhist thinkers. Naturally, there are divergent views on this issue among the various philosophical schools of thought...."
Have you ever asked yourself what the mind is? What is it made up of? Where does it begin and where does it end? Can we come to an objective definition that everybody can agree on such as the definition of a straight line, which is: "A straight line is the shortest distance between two points."
Where does the mind begin?
Let's explore further and try to find out where mind might begin. Most scientists agree that the mind is the product of the brain. The mind is what the brain does, some people say. I'm not saying that I agree with this, just stating common academic beliefs. There is, however, a huge difference between the mind and the brain. The brain is physical and objective and the mind is mental and subjective. So the mind must begin where the physical properties of the brain leave off and the mental properties of mind take over....
I think that this is an unanswerable question. It is very difficult that our mind analyzes his own structure. We feel sensations, handle ideas, etc. and we assign this actions to something that we term mind, the structure of which we ignore..
The situation is similar to the following watch definition:
A watch is a machinery that points out time. In fact this is a definition of the watch action, but not a watch definition. Summarizing: Intuitions are not always properly definable.
The element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought.
Mind is a complicated unit of our body that control and interact with every things around and inside of us(known's and unknown's!). It's so powerful and often deceiver. An amazing animation about mind is here:
The mind is the set of cognitive faculties characteristics of living beings, which includes various processes and states, and that a certain level of complexity possible, beyond perception and memory, consciousness and self-awareness of being alive. The mind is the result of the activity of specialized cells that tend to focus on a defined area of the body, brain and surrounding organs.
I don't mind not knowing what the mind is. Probably, no one knows for certain...
But I agree with dear Ljubomir that it is the software of the brain, as hardware. (the only strange thing about that, is the fact that this software is (or should ) not be interchangeable between two different brains... that's what puzzles me most, and that is probably the most mysterious thing about the Mind.
The mind is a system created by the human since childhood stores all experiences, the human can through this system to distinguish between right and mistake addition to the ability to self-determination.
Mind connects the matter we are (in the mathematical sense that we have mass and we occupy space) and the life we rightfully own by virtue of the various theories of life that one might encounter.
It depends on us when we would want to bring our mind under control; and unlike most things that belong to Nature, the mind can be tamed! A beautiful mind is what we probably strive for to fulfill our requirements for the fundamentals of life.
Mind is the Alma mater of our body. Mind is like a computer that controls all of our feelings, acts, desires. She is so powerful that she even control herself. She is our Master, and the very God that all of us have created over times.
Mind is basically a communication and control system between the physical & metaphysical persona and surrounding environment that performs diverse actions in a single framework in time spans ranging from fractions of a second to multiple generations.
"We have the duty of formulating, of summarizing, and of communicating our conclusions, in intelligible form, in recognition of the right of other free minds to utilize them in making their own decisions."
The mind is an imaginary part of a human related to the brain which is responsible for forming mental images of the thoughts processed by the brain. The mind is different from the brain in that, it cannot be seen, touched or felt. Has anyone ever seen or touched his or her mind before? I don't think so. However, the brain is physical and can be seen and touched (that is during operations of course!). The two should never be interchanged.
Human mind has been a mystery even if we think we are near to it through certain generalization or any particularization it indeed is not even close to reality. For phenomenology states of what is of being and event and the process human analyse things. The same is constituted in Heidegger's Being too human mind is for Heidegger a Dasein. Forthinker's of western civilization since Plato human mind is to achieve certain idea through mimesis, For Aristotle a formation of matter, form and substance. For Descartes the modern philosopher he quoted a famous quote , 'cogito ergo sum' meaning i think therefore i am. For Berkeley there is a co-relation of ideas and perception. For Spinoza human mind was an utterance of eternal God. For Bertrand Russell it was about rationality perhaps to some extent due to his inclination towards analytical philosophy. For Wittgenstein it was the inadequacy of mind. The philosophy of mind has changed from generation to generation. Still in such flux for me mind is all about creating Delusionalism and receiving Delusionalism.

Some people think that the mind is the brain or some other part or function of the body, but this is incorrect. The brain is a physical object that can be seen with the eyes and that can be photographed or operated on in surgery.
The mind, on the other hand, is not a physical object. It cannot be seen with the eyes, nor can it be photographed or repaired by surgery. The brain, therefore, is not the mind but simply part of the body.
There is nothing within the body that can be identified as being our mind because our body and mind are different entities. For example, sometimes when our body is relaxed and immobile, our mind can be very busy, darting from one object to another. This indicates that our body and mind are not the same entity.
In Buddhist scriptures, our body is compared to a guest house and our mind to a guest dwelling within it. When we die, our mind leaves our body and goes to the next life, just like a guest leaving a guest house and going somewhere else.
If the mind is not the brain, nor any other part of the body, what is it? It is a formless continuum that functions to perceive and understand objects. Because the mind is formless, or non-physical, by nature, it is not obstructed by physical objects.
It is very important to be able to distinguish disturbed states of mind from peaceful states. As explained in the previous chapter, states of mind that disturb our inner peace, such as anger, jealousy, and desirous attachment, are called ‘delusions’; and these are the principal causes of all our suffering.
We may think that our suffering is caused by other people, by poor material conditions, or by society, but in reality it all comes from our own deluded states of mind. The essence of spiritual practice is to reduce and eventually to eradicate altogether our delusions, and to replace them with permanent inner peace. This is the real meaning of our human life.
The essential point of understanding the mind is that liberation from suffering cannot be found outside the mind. Permanent liberation can be found only by purifying the mind. Therefore, if we want to become free from problems and attain lasting peace and happiness we need to increase our knowledge and understanding of the mind.
For a deeper understanding of the nature and functions of the mind, see the book, Understanding the Mind
An automatic and pervasive set of actions that revolve around the interpretation of the behaviour of the self and others. Our ability to understand and act upon the fact that other individuals possess mental state including opinions, thoughts, fears, emotions, beliefs, intentions, etc. that are different from ourselves
I find it very much difficult to define or explain the concept of mind. From Philosophy to Science the concept has been defined in varied ways and very few conceptualizations converge with other.
For me the mind appears to be a latent and hypothetical construct that summarizes (or include) the various mental functions ranging from elementary sensation to higher level cognition. It is the receiver and processors of all kinds of sensory and non-sensory information and is the locus of sensations, perceptions, thoughts, emotions, feelings, beliefs etc.
My views on this issue and that of several others can be reviewed in a discussion of similar question asked by me by following the below link
Mind as a phenomenological experience, can be distinguished from other aspects such as intellect, It is certainly easier to experience than to describe.
Mind is my consciousness, my soul, my psyche.....fort this is what connects me to my cosmos to bring awareness in all that I do in my physical body. The mind grows as I grow but varies in different regions of the physical body more towards the brain. For it is the mind that creates the body and not the body that creates the mind.
our mind lets makes us aware of what is going on around us it is the messages that travel from our finger tips through the nervous system to the brain where it is analysed and a decision is made based on touch taste smell sight and auditory skills. we can change our minds over decisions people things that we come in contact with. There are many sayings that refer to mind out of sight out of mind when something upsets or annoys us if we cant see it then we are not constantly bringing thought of it into our minds. we analyse things with our mind sending message to the brain to calculate what it is we are seeking to find or define. Another saying is great minds think alike when two people come to the same reasoning or reach a solution and solve a problem or issue that it puzzling them.
It is simply a part of a living object, that enables it to be aware of the world and its surroundings. For humans, it enables them to think, to feel and be conscious ... it gives us our intellect.
It is very important for all of us to think positive and to keep our mind on the positive road. We are going towards the negative one unfortunately and there is more sorrow, poor health around the world and life is becoming very difficult.
We all can change it and I believe that we must !!
"The moon is one, but on agitated water it produces many reflections. Similarly ultimate reality is one, yet it appears to be many in a mind agitated by thoughts". ~Maharamayana
Mind is our capacity of being wise and intelligent to do the will of God and to love our neighbours. It is an instrument with which we can elevate our conscience and be more perfect in our actuation and thinking.
