Dormancy of the cancer cells results in the recurrence of disease, after treatment of the primary tumor. What might be the possible factors responsible for this phenomena and how these property of a cancer cell can be study? suggestion please

There are many suggested factors Responsible for Cancer dormancy, including variety of signalling mechanisms that ultimately down-regulate the Ras/MAPK and PI(3)K/AKT pathways as in cases of Cellular Dormancy at a Molecular and Cellular Level.
In Angiogenic Dormancy, when a growing tumour mass expands beyond 1-2 mm, it relies on the formation of new vascular beds in order to attain sufficient oxygen and nutrient for growth by inducing expression of the hypoxia-inducible factor-1.
In Immunologic Dormancy, anti-tumor CD8+ T-lymphocytes are believed to have a big influence in cancer modulations.
So the factors are wide & debatable.

Besides all the causes described by Nandu Surendran, we must remember that tumors are highly heterogeneous in its fenotype and genotype. This means that while certain malignant cells show high growth ratio, others may not be active, or at least may be less active. These cell groups include cancer stem cells.
The possible cause for the existence of these "different" cells are probably clonal and environmental (less hypoxia, more nutrients, etc).
All this said, actually we do not know for certain the reason for dormancy.

They can become senescent after treatment (eg.chemotherapy). This mean that cells remain viable but unable to proliferate. They produce SASP, containing immunomodulating agents, which in turn may affect neighbouring cells, creating niche in which normal cells may become cancerous, as well senescent cancer cells may start proliferating again.
