Hi Pauline, yes, GFAP should mark astrocytes (not all of them). In addition, it can identify radial glia like cells. It should not stain microglia and oligodendrocytes.

Do you think it could be possible to have radial glia in a lineage of progenitors from the human ventral midbrain ? I've seen that it's mostly in the cerebral cortex but I have exactly the same co-branding between Nestin and GFAP so that would explain a lot.

In normal conditions, in the CNS, GFAP will only mark astrocytes. It can also detect chronically activated microglia in neurodegenerative diseases.
