Number of academic activities has been increasing year by year all over the world. However, the quality and academic sense of these activities have become questionable. Also, I believe in that the touristic aspect was exaggerated and surpassed the scientific atmosphere in some activities. For example; in the last years, some activities began to be organized in accordance with the academic promotion criteria. Of course we can not generalize these problems for all of activities, but their main purpose and quality are constantly discussed. That’s why I would like to ask you a question about these problems related with the quality of activities, relying on an experience I had.
Your experiences and suggestions on the matter would be valuable, as well.
I agree that more and more criteria are entering into the evaluation of the faculty and those activities are mainly evaluated by quantity. For example, a review activity has also been considered as a service; however, Publons made a thing (an evaluation of the peer review activities) easier so we can easily measure a candidate's review activity in terms of quantitity. By the way, recently, R metrics was developed to measure a canditate's review activity in terms of both quantity and quality. It is not usually used at this time, but it would become a common used measure in the near future.
Improving the quality of research paper is important.
