I've been using 1:10 to 1:100 bleach solution, but my PI has concerns of the corrosive nature/safety of bleach. I've been trying to find an SOP for cleaning lab floors; does anyone have suggestions for disinfectants and SOP for cleaning lab floors?
Bleach os not a good disinfectant for the floor because is fast inactivated for organic load.
You should use a compound that contains a surfactant or detergent and a desinfectant (Quats, IPA,...). Contact cleanrooms solutions vendors yo find the best opción (Diversey)
Sorry Masaru: UV is not a recommended system for dissinfection. I has a low penetration power, also don´t works if has a shadow´s zones, needs a lot of time to achieve lethal dosis for most of the contaminants and let the residues of killed pathoegen in the surface
Thank you Javier, I understand your opinion and we have to discuss to more detail of clean up the operation area. Talking about clean bench for disinfection, I think that our technique is less than 19 century researcher because they had done the historical admired results with poor anti-bactria and anti-fungaus agents. For the B1,2 study, first I recommend that clear up the bench exactly with 70% alcohol with ventilation, and move the instrument to reduce a shadow´s zones as possible as you can. And UV for outsides of bench room is to reduce the infection of air pollutions.
In my research life, I have never heard such experiences that infection in cultured cell line is caused with the pathogen from the floor of a laboratory with semi-clean room with 24 hour UV without operation terms.
Sorry, I have no idea to answer this question, any more.
Masaru Kunimoto Thank you! We just didn't know if there was a preferred method that other labs utilize. We keep the room clean otherwise, so I suppose either Quats or diluted bleach should be sufficient!
