I agree! Journals need to cover all aspects of life that have been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wileidys - a topical question of course. I believe that what you are calling for will happen - but more gradually for the social sciences. It's probably understandable that the research literature that is already coming out and soon-to-come will be predominantly 'hard' science and more likely quantitative in nature. The climate is clambouring more for 'hard soulutions' than 'how might'. As an editor myself, I've already sent out a few reasonably large-scale survey studies on Covid. They can, however, only be indicative of a quick 'snap-shot' in time at this moment.

In terms of the 'social' impact, rather than 'quick', say surveys' on people's perceptions at this moment in time - so much is unknown. Social sciences (and humanities etc)-based research (although not exclusively) may be confined to 'speculative'/opinion pieces. It is probably more prudent, for many, to adopt the language of Covid in terms of 'levelling off' - and the difficulties associated with that language. The social sciences, in my mind, are better represented when we know what levelling off truely means - and what is 'on the other side' before we can start to, more fully, understanmd social impact.

This is a primary topic to consider. It is to be accepted that hard sciences are leading the way now. Still in the larger picture the ecosystem around hard science is the one that matters. The lack of evidence on the impact of COVID-19 within social science research networks is the core reason why fake news managed to disrupt the ecosystem view. Political lobby groups fight against science - and from their viewpoint it really does not matter whether the question is about "hard" science or "soft" science. Media is controlled in some countries by rich people and "old-boys networks" and they want their truth to be seen by the public.The bigger this disruption on the markets may become the more serious negative impact and related economic recession would be around the world:

Dear Wileidys Artigas, I believe it is very important to photograph the political, social and economic responses to the pandemic day by day. Without precise and objective monitoring (photography) of the aforementioned responses to the pandemic, it will be very difficult to analyze and discuss the events of this period from the point of view of the social sciences. Furthermore, in my opinion, the social sciences at this moment play a role of fundamental importance for an immediate, balanced, rational and orderly response of people both as individuals and as a community, to avoid any collective panic reactions that involve attitudes that can be too repressive, too careless or fatalistic. Therefore, perhaps at this time, that is, during the pandemic, the social sciences should mainly strive more for scientific dissemination than for scientific research in the strict sense. On the other hand, in my opinion, the analysis of the events especially from a social and political point of view should be done not during the emergency but rather in the end with due serenity and cold rationality. Now, however, it is necessary to acquire all the data i.e. to monitor the pandemic and social responses objectively day by day. Scientific publications, research or environmental monitoring programs or research projects, for example, in the last twenty years are used mainly for career advancement. We are increasingly powerless witnessing scientific publications based on data collected without a minimum of logic and objectivity and without any statistical programming, if not invented, ie, created "ad hoc" to obtain the most "fashionable" results of the moment. I raised this problem almost five years ago by asking the question: "Get funding to do research or do research to get funding?" that everyone can see among the questions and discussions proposed by me on RG. Finally, I would like to emphasize that, in my opinion, in this very critical and delicate period it is better not to give too much credit to social media information since too often they are tainted by fake news or used for the purpose of political electioneering and not only.

Thanks Leonardo Cannizzaro we have to find a way to make the social sciences closer to the reality. I think we always are kind of far a difference of the natural sciences that always produce more inmediate knowledge from situations like this, I mean I know is different, but we have to stop being just discussion and start being more interesting in that way of course in our discipline, not only for career advancement. And that is a good question about funding and more in this time of budget reductions.

As in all the massive events that affect humanity both in health and in the economy, scientific journals play an important role in the dissemination of progress, but there comes a point where it ceases to be important because of what is thought that everything has already been written about it or the publications are repetitive without contributing something new. For this reason, it should be encouraged to generate specialized magazines on the subject of COVID-19 that keep up to date with all the advances that scientists make in this regard and have a long-term permanence, thus generating constant and updated science.
