In children, portal-based inflammation and fibrosis are more prominent. In contrast, the portal tracts in adults are relatively spared, unless co-existent liver pathology such as HCV is present.
This may be related to the cause i.e alcohol conumed by adults and not children, this alcohol which cause the structural changes in liver cells. According to some articles mallory bodies are seen more commonly in ASH than NASH. For further reading:
