Dialkylcarbocyanine dyes, such as DiD, Dil, DiO, and DiR, may also be used. Carbocyanine dyes are lipophile dyes that can be embedded into the membrane of exosomes in a non-covalent manner. After entering the lipid bilayer, they diffuse around, thus marking the entire exosome membrane structure.
