Based in your experience in research, what tests are more applied to evaluation of nociception behavior in orofacial region (skin, muscles or sinovial joint)? Thank you for your answer.
I think rubbing time of upper lip (site of fomalin injection) will be used for sceening of pharmacological agent in formalin induced orofacial pain in rodents
Hello. I have a question. Are you talking about the inflammation induction model or the nociceptive response analysis? There are several mechanisms by which you could induce inflammation but I guess one of the easiest would be facial carrageenan injection. In that case, if you would have liked to assess a pharmacological effect your best bet would be either a cellular (eg immunohistochemistry) or biochemical approach such as Elisa or western blot to find out if a drug you are testing may induce an antiinflammatory effect. However if you are looking for an antihioeralgesic or antiallodinic effect your best approach would be a behavioral one. Depending on exactly what effect you hipothezise your drug may induce, is the behavioral model you should choose. For example, in the carrageenan approach you could either use Von Frey filaments or count the amount of times the rat rubs its face, for example.
