What should be the nutritional status of wistar rats before the injection of STZ.?

Has anyone observed these new findings in any other models, like wistar rats, NOD mice, ob/ob mice etc? Has anyone observed that injecting STZ in an over fasted animal (eg-fasting for about 20h) induces massive destruction of beta-cells, and this results in very high FBL (like 500-600mg/dl) within two days?
Finally, is fasting really necessary for IP of STZ?
For effective induction of diabetes by STZ fasting is must. The mechanism by which it works is very important, STZ acts as a glucose molecule to be transported by glucose transporter (GLUT2) which is abundant in beta cells. After entering in to beta cell it damages the DNA. In fed condition the active transport and glucose sensing will be ongoing as per the food metabolism so this can interfere with effective induction/complete absorption of STZ to give permanent effective diabetic status.
