For me 2014 personal achievement includes completed my PhD, written & published several articles and start using RG as platform for further learning & knowledge contribution.  Professionally I have opportunities to work on some IT projects pertaining to new technologies in cloud computing, software defined data center and data center transformation.  Hope in future can apply social science research techniques in big data analytics &  vice-versa.

Together with my co-author I got a paper accepted to International Business Review: one of the top journals in my field ( http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0969593114001838 ). This is important as my grant is ending and in this paper, we did something I promised in my grant proposal; in addition, I published 2 other journal articles this year.

One of the highlights of 2014, was having joined Research Gate, for in personal as in academic terms. It opened up new horizons and allowed me to read and enter interesting conversations all over the world, in different subjects. It is a sort of huge scientific conference, democratically open with free access to everyone.

I am enjoying myself, as much as one could.

my greatest achievement in 2014, is finding a new distance metric which is invariant to data scale and outliers, this helped me in getting better results for my research.

In professional matters - habilitation degree in social sciences in February 2014  In private life - I suppose I have helped a few people to find right way and other to feel balanced, more comfortable and happy. 

As a professor and academic administrator, maybe I have never realized how many tasks, projects, side projects, initiatives, programs (academic and otherwise), proposals and management offices I have on my plate. I could manage to count them to add some facts to my accomplishment list that count as achievements! That was truly my biggest triumph for 2014, dear Ljubomir.

My greatest achievement in 2014 is staying alive.

Look for peace in Iraq or elsewhere. The most important achievement is to write and discuss with all RG colleagues. That makes me more encouragement to do some other works.

One of my best decisions this year was changing job. Now I am working in drug use prevention finding new ways to empower people make informed and autonomous decisions about their health.

Happy and venturous new year.

As pretty much every year, when summing up the year that soon will have passed, I am astonished how much one work can do within the span of 12 months. And I tell myself, as every other year, to try to do slightly less next year, for my own health's sake as well as for the sake of my near and dear ones. But, as someone wise once said - work is a jealous mistress ... :-) 

Otherwise, this has been a record year in earning new grants to do new research, and it is for the first time mostly grants to perform research in applied fields of great societal interest. So I am looking forward to working with new colleagues - PhD students and young researchers - as well as with my current colleagues, on new and exciting problems! 

It has also been a very nice mix in working on curious research on everything from sub gradients to extremely efficient implementations of specialized algorithms, to working within societies on networking activities. 

To summarize, work-wise it has been quite a good year. I hope to be able to repeat that phrase one year from now, and that everyone else here on RG can do the same!

My greatest achievement is a continuing behaviour to keep and conserve my integrity in spite of a hostile and commercial environment.

Another achievement was to have been able to make tiny but original steps without financial support in my field.

One of my most sad failure was that I was not able to behave as a good Catholic should be.

My greatest achievement was having fun in the pursuit of high performance and personal development. Also, having fun on the weekends then dreading the upcoming stayed as sinusoidal as years before.

Dear Profs, quite often I think 'what does it profit a man/woman to gain the world and lose his/her soul?  So I'm happy that  managed to be energetic to carry out my duties in this world and be faithful to God and man.  A  few hours ago, I was keying in what I did at work; the highlights are the 3 papers published, 2 in online journals and the 3rd in a Book of Best Practices.  I have uploaded 2 of them to my RG pages.  I realize the importance of my RG friends and I thank YOU all.

I am also thankful that I'm able to reach out to the lonely and needy around me.  That is some personal achievement, small though it seems.  I'm thankful for each day in this year.

As researcher to have realized a patent which has been purchased by a company, as teacher to have realized the graduation of two my fellow students with applause and praise of the examiners, as pratictionner to have saved the lives of some patients, as common man to have won the trust and friendship of many people of different nationalities, cultures and religion and finally to have "cheated" death for another year.

I visited the Falkland Islands and the Falkland Islanders for the first time since the war...to say farewell to friends we buried and to thank the Islanders for making what we did worth it...Class of 82

I have published many good quality articles in top-rated international peer reviewed journals. 

I have published a book this year.

Well, it's been a great year for me. I've published an IEEE Transaction paper. In addition, I've been appointed as reviewer for 3 IEEE Transactions and Journals. The happiest moment was completing my Master's at IIT Kharagpur and then joining University of California, Davis for my PhD.

I have published good quality papers and about to complete a book as editor.

My greatest achievements in 2014 are, I´m still alive with clear brain, I love my family and I like to listen all your comments here in RG.

Period!

In late spring of 2014, the second semester ended. It was a semester of the "heaviest" load I ever shouldered in my 30 years career at my university (21 credit hours) including teaching 4 sections the same organic chemistry using the same textbook. Thanks God, the job was done well. Before the end of this year, the first semester of 2014/2015 will end but the load is lower (15 credit hours). So far so good, wishing all will end well specially the industrial chemistry 2 courses "which are difficult for the students".

@Sardar, Barbara, dear Profs, I must share something about 'being connected on RG'.  This year (2014), I took Michael Bruckner's advice seriously.  He said once, as researchers, we need to have quite a few papers in the pipeline.  Because 'a few will be rejected'.  How true!  I wrote 7 papers, and 2 were rejected by the 1st journal I sent them to.  Five were accepted, and of this, three have been published.  (I thank RG friends.  With you, I can share rejections!)

For me 2014 was a small year . I don't sensed it. Personally it learns me how human (relatives as well) could be opportunist at the limit to lose the confidence of others, and how they are able to be bad just for some thing to get or to be paid for. Professionally, i write a paper  for an internal conference and another  for international one, I do not attended the two by administrative decisions.

I enjoyed research gate and meeting with many friends through it. And i thank God to letting me healthy physically and mentally..

In 2014, I became father of a lovely daughter, which is my greatest achievement. :-)

2014 is a remarkable year for the following reasons:

1. Academically, some papers and book chapters have been published/under consideration. I think I learned to write better.

2. Personally, counseling/guiding one single young man to change his attitude to life and seeing with satisfaction his growth in the right direction.

Getting ready to finish a degree at WNMU. Finally a Dept. of Education is looking into the discrimination I suffered at NMHU being kicked out 6 credits from graduating even though I was in good status when they found out I have Asperger's. My greatest accomplishment is turning a complaint of a misuse of a federal scholarship that was turned over to collections that was supposed to be in deferral while I am in school. My website for my exit project got over 25,999 hits before it is finished.My greatest accomplishment tonight is figuring out how to open a bottle of Bordeux with a pocket knives without getting pieces of cork in it, that my best friend gave me to celebrate my 57th birthday that I was not supposed to live to. I have pneumonia and I thought maybe some wine might chase it away or at least make me not be quite so miserable."

Dear Prof Ljubomir and friends, many of you know that on RG, there's no one else from my college.  In early 2014, I was asked to be the internal RnD facilitator.  That meant that my job was to listen to all the proposal papers, and all the research reports, with some invited RnD experts; and decide concerning the merit of the work.  I presented 2 papers, but I was told that I would not win anything.  I was told not to participate in the college RnD colloquiums.  

So I decided that I would continue with my research that actually helped my students, and just submit to journals.  It worked for my good!  It was more difficult but it worked out fine.  But I should admit that 2 papers were rejected in 2014!
