Responsible investment is an approach to investing that aims to incorporate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors into investment decisions to better manage risk and generate sustainable, long - term returns.
In Nigeria, I just discovered that sometimes people are what we call, "Money Miss Road" (these are people who have made money through perhaps foul means, and are ready to part with their ill - gotten wealth irresponsibly).
There are so many ways these so called 419ners dupe their victims. They may open up a scheme and find smart ways of convincing people that if they put much, they get within days more than 500% of their "investment". That is not really investment but what we call the "wayorist's scheme."
Think about the Late Sergey Mavrodi's Mavrody Mondial Movement (MMM), which they said to be a membership of people that provide each other financial help for free, mutually and benevolently.
Can one say that MMM is a responsible investment? We saw the disaster that MMM caused in Nigeria. So many people who invested millions of Naira lost their monies to MMM, and people were committing suicide without looking back. People had their homes broken because of MMM.
The big question remains , where is the office of the MMM situated, and how can it's key officials be met in case someone runs into trouble with the scheme?
They say that the MMM ideology is based on the main rule, all the members of this system should be honorable and polite to each other.
Why then did MMM crumble in Nigeria and many marriages broke down because of it? Why did many people commit suicide because they lost huge amounts of money to MMM? Be wise!
Also be careful with the so - called Isusu. Some of them are just like the MMM scheme. Shine your eyes wisely and know who you are interacting with. A word is enough for the wise.
We shall delve into the principles for responsible investment according to the United Nations.
