We should ask ourselves, how many abandoned, uncompleted buildings does one see when we travel abroad? How can people buy plots, acres or hectares of land to erect buildings in them and suddenly abandons them? That calls to the issues of cult 'prophecies' and menace in Nigeria. Most times the cult grand - masters will tell the owners of such buildings that if they complete them, that death must knock at their door mysteriously. But the question is, Who are they to prophesy sudden death?
May I make it categorically clear that all these abandoned, uncompleted buildings are the hide - outs for criminals and societal miscreants.
Many crimes are being perpetrated and orchestrated in the umbrella of these hide - outs ranging from the abode of the kidnapped while ransom is being negotiated between the kidnappers and the relations of their victims, ritualistic practices where people are being slaughtered and their human parts are sold by the ritualists, where innocent girls that are abducted are raped by myraids of idiots, renegades, charlatans and where armed robbers live and take off for their operations amongst other evil practices like cult initiations.
The pertinent question we should ask ourselves is this, "why do people waste their life - long earnings in trying to build such edifices and suddenly abandons them?
The Nigerian government should sit up and challenge those people who cause strife in the society. They should give three months to the Landlords/ Landladies of all abandoned, and uncompleted buildings in the country to bring their title documents and certificates of occupancy and submit them to all states Ministry of Lands to show ownership.
They will in turn be instructed to complete such buildings within three months or their C of O's will be automatically revoked and taken back by the government for the building of useful ventures that will be beneficial to the society.
These renegades and miscreants that are causing trouble in the society should be equally dealt with. Stringent measures should be devised to tackle the menace. People should not build and abandon and such places will be used to commit crime.
Laws should be enacted on how long it must take people to complete any house project they have embarked upon.
