I'm doing silica nanoparticles synthesis and I would like to know if they are entirely condensed. I know I can use solid state nmr of carbon and silica but is there other methods?
You can use Infrared prop for monitoring the reaction. Or you can take every minute a sample from reaction flask, after purification and dried it under vacuum, then place it in TGA; by calculating the chemical adsorbed water; which usually accrues 120-150°C. In addition, the condensation rate depends on many factors such as type of alkoxide (methoxy or ethoxy), temperature, etc. Kindly see this paper " Spray synthesis of monodisperse sub-micron spherical silica particles, 2007, vol. 61, no8-9, pp. 1951-1954, Material letter"
