Modern industry uses radioisotopes in a variety of ways to improve productivity and, in some cases, to gain information that cannot be obtained in any other way. Radioisotopes make important contributions in several sectors of economic significance including medicine, food processing, industry, agriculture, structural safety and research. They are generally produced in research reactors or cyclotrons. More than 150 different radioisotopes in different forms are in use for various applications. Radioisotopes will continue to play an important role in national development.
