I'm looking at taking the subject test for Biology and BioChem. Could any of you with experience or 'know-how' provide some advice and best avenue to approach this from.

I took once (GRE Subject test: Biology) long time ago. Back then, it was difficult for me. If my memory serves me right, the subject almost covered every topic in the Biology (plants and animals). I don't think there is a very good technique to study it. However, at least you should study and understand the topics of your Biology textbooks. This might be helpful: They published some books filled with 'old tests' (see below). Some libraries have a few of them. You can get some of these books and practice on the questions.
Personally I never took a subject test for the GRE. But speaking from my experience taking the general test, the Kaplan study guide helped out tremendously. I took the GRE twice: the first time I didn't prepare at all and did okay, while the second time I studied by reading over the kaplan book and practicing (about 2 months). Increased my scores by a fair amount. Amazon usually has used copies from past years. I doubt an issue from a couple years ago would really differ.
