Hi everybody, Is there any recommended new and fast western blotting apparatus that any of you guys experience with good results and fair price? Thanks a lot
It's been my experience that the old-fashioned wet tank or carefully prepared semi-dry with standard rocking antibody incubations perform more consistently than the "fast" devices that have come out recently. There are certainly antibodies or targets which probably perform really well on the new systems, but when I've demoed them I had targets that would always be beautiful barely give me a band. I think the most recent was the Snap ID system from Millipore.
Hi ! This is the first year I routinely do western blots so my experience is limited ... But in my lab and in my university we are using the Trans-Blot Turbo device from Bio-Rad. In order not to bother with preparing our membranes and "sandwiches" we use the Trans-Blot Turbo Transfer packs (ready-to-use membranes). So far our results are satisfying but it always depends on what you expect.
I used wet/ tank bloting system from BOI-RAD for western blotting for about three years and the results that I got were good enough that I did not have to use any other alternative apparatus.
iBlot2 from Life Technologies seems to be quite similar to the Bio-Rad Turbo Transfer Device and is unparalleled in its convenience (less mess, easier to avoid bubbles) and transfer speed, but like Jordan I have concerns about its transfer efficiency depending on the protein species. We've validated it for our protein and it performs comparably to wet transfer method we used in the past.
