The origin of life on Earth is still not known. Some maintain that rather than it having originated here as a result of complex organic chemical reactions that it arrived fully formed from space on comets.
What evidence is there that would support this claim?
Even if true it would still not fully explain how life came about in the universe. Does anyone have any suggestions as to that conundrum?

Excellent point Jonathan.
The principle point is that the life transported across the solar system must still have developed within the 4.5 billion year time span. If life developed in our solar system then the Earth would be the prime point of origin.
It has to be noted that the gas giant were closer to the sun 4 billion years ago and the volatile atmospheres of those planets might also be the source.

Origin of life is detailed by the Life Origination Hydrate Theory (LOH-Theory). This theory is developed by me and Dr. Victor Ostrovskii. This theory considers the mechanism of living-matter origination from minerals, including DNAs and double-helixes formation, differentiation into animals and plants, appearance of the phenomenon of chirality, formation of cells, and related problems, such as formation of mineral necessary for life originations and the natural conditions under which these processes could proceed. On the basis of the LOH-Theory, the problem of species diversity is also considered. The LOH-Theory was used as a basis for development of the Mitosis and Replication Hydrate Theory and the theory of aging and life prolongation. These theories and the daughter theories have been published in the course of about 20 years in approximately 20 scientific journals and presented at about 25 scientific conferences over the world. If the Earth-like life it was brought from another planet... their source was Mars or Ceres... The rocky meteorites show a well-determined origin (from preexisted rocky planet surface or comet) from these two types of celestial body only from preexisted planet can be source of life from outside... between 1993-1995 I have written a philosophical book where going out from metaphysical assumption I have explained chemical formation of life... actually I have it only in Hungarian and only in book I cannot shear it... If somebody offers for the English version correcting... I will type the text and translate it...

Comets contain a wealth of chemicals for biological and pre-biological reactions especially for DNA and water. Can't imagine how many comets bombarded Earth to make it primarily H2O but probably the water cycle and other factors accelerated it
Sagan, Chyba, Lunine & McKay have theorized and hypothesized in labs and real comets and also Titan about this theory.
